We went to a cookout today and I did not want to be rude and just eat the meat, which was the only thing available that I could eat. I am keeping on my diet as of tomorrow.. Did I ruin it or will one day of cheat be okay?

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
First of all, what's rude about just eating the meat? Most of us do that all the time, whether we are going through the drive-through at Burger King or eating in a restaurant or at a friend's house for a bbq!!!!!! You need to immediately make a decision as to whether you are going to avoid all social events or go, and stick to the plan. Seriously.
Hard to know whether this will kick you out of ketosis. It may, and it may not. But you need to have a super-clean 14 days of induction under your belt in order for this woe to succeed. So I would suggest counting tomorrow as your new Day 1.Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
It's a small setback in the grand scheme of things, so don't beat yourself up. However, I would have a game plan for next time. There are ALWAYS gping to be obstacles, and you need to learn to overcome them. One cheat like this won't kill you, but lots of them will.
Drink extra water, and maybe get some extra exercise in tomorrow, then just pick up where you left off.

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
What exactly did you eat? It's hard to say...sometimes people get away with cheats and some pay for it for awhile. Also, don't feel like you're being rude. Don't ever feel like you have to eat food you don't want to. If you were a diabetic nobody would think badly of you. Next time say you're not that hungry or that particular foods aren't on your eating plan right now. If you do so politely such as "It looks terrific...but I can't eat that right now." Most people will understand. You need to do what's best for you! Drink extra water and exercise a bit harder for the next few days. And remember Dr.A said "Just one cheat is the kiss of death." I hope you recover well!Did I ruin it or will one day of cheat be okay?

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
When I have to go to one of those things, I bring dishes to pass. A tray of devilled eggs is always popular and gives me something yummy to eat while I'm mingling. I also bring a tray of veggies with ranch dressing or something like that.
Another popular item is jello with cream cheese. Take a box of sugar free jello mix, add hot water and 1/2 the amount of cold on the directions, blend with a package of cream cheese, and let it chill. Once it sets, it's great!
Bring that stuff along, and nobody will care what you are eating! They'll just be glad you brought some treats.Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
cmpotts - Taking care of you and your health isn't rude. If you allow others to make decisions for you, you're going to have a hard time no matter what you do or where you go.
You CAN help it. You have to make the best decisions for you - regardless of what others think, and if anyone gives you garbage then you just tell them "I have insulin regulation issues and have to be very careful about what I eat." It's not an untruth
Yep. Plan ahead like the ladies above suggested and you'll be okay no matter where you go

Eating meat was the only GOOD part of the day. The potato salad, the bun, and the cheesecake were the cheat partsOriginally posted by SavannahQuestion?

Re: Big Bad Cheat!!!
I agree with Brook. Looking out for your health and well-being isn't being rude. If you were allergic to peanuts would you eat the peanutbutter cookies offered to you to avoid being rude? OR if you followed religious dietary restrictions would you eat pork or beef because it would be rude if you declined?
Be prepared the next time and bring something like a green salad with you. That way there won't be any excuse for you not to eat according to plan.
