  • I'm Scared

    Um,

I restarted Atkins on Sunday/Monday. I went through a day and a half of feeling icky, and I've been pretty strict about the diet so far.

I started at 247 and today I'm down to 240. Is this normal? I'm scared!

Yes, you are releasing a ton of water weight right now. You were probably pretty bloated. You can expect to lose betwen 5 and 10% of the total amount you are trying to lose in the first two weeks, and for many people, a good chunk of it happens in the first few days.

      You're doing GREAT!

yes.. it hits some people. don't worry. the weight loss is probably just water. Drink up .. have more water. At the end of the induction you'll think you own the world

Yes, it is normal! Isn't it fabu?! As Finelly states, water weight is the first to go! This diet is an excellent cure for water retention.

Don't worry JBO....you went through a quick induction flu...lucky you...mine was 4 days. Also not to worry about the weight drop...as you have already read...some of that is water weight. Next week you probably won't lose as much. I lost 9 pounds my first week and 3 the second week. Try to stay off the scale and weigh only once a week...I know it is hard!! And take your measurements!!

JBO - Don't be afraid - be glad you had the induction flu and the rapid weight loss. The induction flu means you are doing everything just right; the rapid weight loss is just wonderful. I only lost about 3 pounds my first week. I ended up finding out I had a high metabolic resistence and have lost weight slowly while I've been on Atkins. So light I said, be Happy!!

Hey...what are you doing weighing yourself again?? It has only been three days! I would not panic yet. A body can flucuate a bit. Did you weigh yourself both days in the morning...after you used the bathroom..before you had anything to eat or drink...naked? Is your TOM coming soon? Did you eat a lot of salt yesterday? Are you drinking your water...LOTS of it?

                    Re: I'm Scared

Elsie is right - our bodyweight fluctuates not only through a 24 hour period but through the weeks!!
I find my weight varies by as much as 7-8 pounds during a 7-day period even though I am weighing at the same time of day and nekkid except for my contact lenses (how much can they weigh? LOL) In fact I always wait till it has touched a new low three times before I alter my stats!

If it is going to upset you and perhaps damage your belief in this WOE and therefore your decision to stick with it - DON'T STEP ON THOSE SCALES

also make sure you (and anyone reading this who is also feeling upset by a seeming weightgain) read the sticky called 'weightloss is not linear' http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5090 to reassure you that any variation in those numbers is absolutely NORMAL
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
