  • Atkins vs Nutrisystem

If any of you have been watching Celebrity Fit Club you have seen people consistantly losing 6-9 lbs every 2 weeks. That is amazing to me-especially when these people are 3 months into their diets. How do they do it? Is Nutrisystems limited caloric intake route as good or a better way to rapid weight loss than Atkins?

Has anyone here tried Nutrisystem and can give an opinion?

I'm not familiar with Nutrisystem so I don't know what the diet entails. And I've never seen Celebrity Fit Club either.

But 6-9 lbs every 2 weeks comes to 3-4 pounds a week---this is possible on Atkins if you follow the diet strictly (no one bite of potato chips or bread or whatever else you're not supposed to eat in your phase of the diet) and provided that you exercise.

I'm guessing by the title of the program, Celebrity Fit Club, this is like a weight loss camp for celebrities where they live in an apartment or condo, have meals prepared for them and have personal trainers and fitness experts put them through their daily exercises. In other words, they don't have to wake up at 5 AM, get ready for work and get the kids ready for school, drop the kids off at school, do a 1 to 2 hour commute in rush hour traffic, work, then go through another 1-2 hour commute in the evening rush, pick up the kids and drive them to their soccer and ballet practices, then pick them up again bring them home, help with homework, go to sleep and do the same thing over again, all while finding the time to grocery shop, prepare meals, run errands, do housework and exercise?

      Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

I've know several people who had great success on Nutri-System....

the drawbacks seem to be... it's expensive... (about $400 a month)... which I guess compared to what I spend on food isn't THAT much more...

but... it's so controlled, that you're not learning how to make food choices on your own.... eating out of those little boxes all day rules out the chances for eating out with your family....

FAMILY.. that's the other thing......with Atkins.. no matter what I make.. or what kind of meal we have.... I can still 'fit in' ....

I'm not sitting eating out of my box and having to make something else for hubby...

our whole clan went to one of the southern 'fish houses'... all you can eat fries, hushpuppies, slaw, country ham, fried shrimp, chicken, stew, beans, soup and salad bar... biscuits.... etc.. there was PLENTY that I could eat and nobody even had to KNOW that I was on a 'diet'....

I think Nutrisystem does work... and the one guy that I know lost a bunch on it was single... it was convenient for him... BUT... as so often happens.. as soon as he ran out of boxes... and was making his own choices again.... he gained it all back.. in spades!

at best I believe it's a short'term plan.... not something most people plan to stay on for the long haul.. unlike this WOE which trains us to fit it into our REAL lives...

I did Nutri-system and I gained it ALL back and much more once I stopped eating their food. In fact at the time it was my all time high. Also the goal here is not to drop the weight as fast as we can. But to learn to eat right by following the rungs on OWL so the weight will STAY OFF. JMO

          Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

The problem with a program like nutrisystem is it's spendy, you'll be hungry (they use higher-glycemic-index foods), and you'll gain the weight back unless you commit to the program for life!

Naturally, on any program you must commit for life, but to have to rely on a company for its food for life?

On Atkins, you use your food. And it's not pre-packaged.

It's healthy. Fresh vegetables, whole grains (in the proper time), organic cuts of meat, cream, sweet berries (in the proper time)...

As megs says, you can lose the weight JUST as fast on Atkins IF you stick with it, keep a food diary, calculate your carbs AND calories and remain faithful to this way of eating.

So far I've lost 19 pounds in 5 days on Atkins. While this isn't a typical result for everyone, it's amazing that I can be so NOT hungry, feel amazing, and have lost so much in so little time!

            Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

I lost 20 pounds on Atkins, then gained 10 of it back because I went back to my horrible eating habits. Instead of going back on Atkins, I tried Nutrisystem (started this week, on Monday). I think all of their commercials got to me.

Well, I have been starving all week, have had to make dinner for my family plus my Nutrisystem meals, and have been preoccupied with food all week. It seems like that's all I think about.

I've lost 3 pounds, which is great, but I just don't think it's worth it. I hate that hungry feeling all day long, and their foods aren't that good.

As of today, I'm back on Atkins. I remember always feeling satisfied after my meals. I need to lose that 10 pounds I had gained, plus another 10-20.

I'm going to spend the next couple of days catching up on all of the posts here in the forum!

              Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

I tried Nutrisystem and had a decent amount of success and would really recommend it to anyone with a lot of self control. The food tasted good but the weight was really really slow to come off (although in all fairness, it was also really really slow to come back on, too). They seemed to have rearranged their recipes to make stuff with a low glycemic index or something, and when I tried it again it wasn't as fun and pretty gross. The weight loss was also a LOT slower, I lost 10 pounds in about two months. Atkins is really a safer bet, if you ask me.

                Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

My best friend is on that, and she is HUNGRY all the time!! She almost passed out at her job a few days ago. The meals are tiny, I feed my 6 year old more food than she gets to eat. I have begged her to read DANDR, and now she is ready. She is staying on Nutri until the food she paid for is gone, and I think I have her convinced to join us!! I have lost 19 pounds in 5 weeks.
Celebrity Fit Club is one of my fav TV shows, but it IS a TV show. Its not real life! Come on!!! They work out for hours a day with a person trainer, and I don't know anybody who can afford that.
My opinion, stick with Atkins. Go read the before/after section if you think this doesn't work. Good luck making up your mind.
What would we do without it?

                Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

                  Re: Atkins vs Nutrisystem

I have a friend who spent every last penney she made on Nutri-Systems Nourishe. She looked really good too! Then ... she lost her job, couldn't pay for their food anymore and gained it back PLUS 40 pounds - and, within 4 months!!!!!!! She never learned how to make choices, portions, etc. She didn't learn about glycemic index foods ... it came in a box ... she ate it and that's all she had to do. So ... me? I'd rather go the Atkins route. At least I know that even on the worst pay day, I can normally roll some change and pick up a bag of lettuce, box of cream cheese and water is cheap too!!! lol
THIS TIME and for the LAST TIME, I will do this!!
