Re: question???????
Peanuts are introduced during the rungs of 'Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) as they are higher on the glycemic index than many other foods and have more effect on our insulin production and blood-glucose level than the induction acceptable foods we eat duirng the first 14 days.
Also we are supposed to get over half of our up to 20 net carbs from vegetables during induction, and as we also count the carbs in eggs, cheese etc a very small amount of peanuts would make the carb count too high too!!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: question???????
well you need a little Atkins history lesson to understand why the answer is because Dr Atkins said so!
When Dr Atkins wrote his first edition iof the DANDR back in the early 980s he did just that rule 5 of induction said you could use a carb counter and select other foods not on his lists to create your own 20 carb menus and folks did.. BUT they then called wreote or arrived at his center with serious problems sticking to the plan, conrolling the cravings, learning that veggies are our friends ( yep I see you sitting there snickering),and getting the needed fiber and micronutrients we need.
SO in 2002 Dr Atkins changed rule 5. Go get your DANDR and open to chapter 11 and look up rule 5 (for you lazy lurkers they are liosted in the FAQ and in the stickies.) See for our own good Dr Atkins says eat nothing not on the acceptable foods lists not one bite! so that is the reason we can't be munching on nuts during our inital 14 day induction period. Once you have finished your 14 days and seen how well you can control your food choices, your appetite and cravings, enjoy rich foods, and still lose inches of fat and pounds on the scales you can move to OWL and on rung 3 get your nuts added to your plan.

Re: question???????
Ditto on the above. Keep in mind that as you go through OWL and go up the rungs, you'll be able to find which foods you might be sensitive to. Without eliminating them during induction it's much harder to go backwards and pinpoint those foods.
