  • Any harm in a short induction

I HATE induction!! This is not my first time-around on atkins, & I know by the book is best but my MO has been to go whole hog (no pun intended) for two weeks & then fall completely off the wagon I was wondering if there would be any harm in a one week induction or should I just stick with it?

Hi Debra! I feel your pain, but induction is to the Atkineer what detox is to the druggie!

It is SO important to not skip that step because it cleanses your body and helps you regulate blood sugar, mood, and helps your body go into lipolysis (fat burning mode).
We're here for you, so feel free to gripe, gritch and grimace as much as you want!

Re: Any harm in a short induction

it will depend on why. induction is a psych thing in addition to learning the ropes but as Dr Atkins says in the later parts of his books when you are doing atkins and have a cheat period you can just do a few days of induction to get your ketosis going and then mover right back to the part you were on. So are you a cheater returning to your Atkins ways or a newbie in need of that full psych job seeing the results of a full 14 days on the strictest part with the big change in blood sugar control, appetite control, craving contro,l and sense of accomplishmewnt on the plan that many folk need to be sold on Atkins as the means to accomplish their smaller healthier being?

If you don't need all that and know how to do it then do what will work best for you induction to ketosis and craving controls and then back to OWL.

      Happy low carbing.

I should have guessed I would get such good advice . I know you are both right. I guess since my cheat period has lasted for several months I should go the FULL 14 days and find some way to like it. I feel so limited in what I can eat because I usually eat pasta & bread for nearly every meal, its hard to come up with ideas for meals that I would like. I guess that is what induction is about finding new way to eat. I'll take your advice & get through the 2 week induction. Although I probably will gripe about it ocassionally.

If you miss pasta you might want to try spaghetti squash. I cut it in half, microwave it for about 15-20 mins then use a fork to get the strands. Then I boil it in water until it's tender and top it with alfredo or a butter sauce. It's excellent! There's also pasta dishes like Spinach "lasagna" that are so incredibly good you wonder why you made dishes like it with noodles! Here's the recipe if you're interested... http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/spinach_lasagna.htmlAlso, cruise around that site for even more recipes! Recipes that are o.k for induction are listed with a * so they're easy to find! I use this site whenever I need something new to try. Hope that helps!

And you can also cut courgettes (zucchini) into thin strips and use a pasta sauce over them (induction-legal of course)
Another good substitute (for mouthfeel appeal) is to cut up thin slices of han into strips and use that instead.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Bugaboo I was going to send you a pm but I thought others might be interested in hearing the lasagna recipe was soooo good, I just made it (& made plenty to last). Truly a life saver, I may be able to do this after all. I am going to try the other recipe later this week.
