  • A Question For Uk Atkineers

    Hi All,

I just wanted to know where you shop and what you ate on induction.

As we know the UK isn't as geared up as the USA for low carb lifestyles, even though it is getting better.

So much of our food as a lot of nitrates and aspartame in them and we have to really read the packaging.

But I just wondered if any of you had any advice, tips etc on the foods you eat etc.
    Love & Hugs

Well - I tend to eat fresh meat and veggies rather than buy processed stuff so there is less to worry about. What kind of food do you like to eat? Maybe someone can suggest good recipes so you can enjoy the same foods but make them yourself.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Cheese is a big favourite of mine and also I love ALL veggies and salad.

I'm not a great meat lover, but I do like chicken.

I was thinking of having crustless quiche for breakfast.

Feta cheese and olives and sundried tomatos in olive oil for lunch.

And a Ham salad for tea.

Re: A Question For Uk Atkineers

Regarding low-carb products & not the Atkins program per se: I traveled all over the U.K. this past summer, and saw Atkins/low-carb products very highly stocked in every drugstore. Loads of low-carb diet books, bars, candies, British magazines with low-carb features, etc. Actually, the U.K. seems to have more (and also far better, in my opinion) low-carb goodies in their England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales pharmacies than the U.S. does. Even the Boots in Holyhead was a great place for me to look around. I brought home a ton of Low-Carb Rolo, for example - they were so good!

But if you live in an environment where plenty of fresh meats, vegetables, and low-glycemic fruits are made available, any phase of Atkins is feasible regardless of where you live!

Hi Lou, My trolley looks lots different these days, lots and lots of fresh veggies, I shop for veggies twice a week, more often for lettuce; eggs, olive oil, tinned fish, fresh meat. I shop at Tescos cos its cheap and M&S cos its close and I think the quality is a bit better but more expensive.

Just stick to fresh produce - that's what the Doctor ordered, anyway.

Good quality bacon is fine, so are premium quality sausages and eggs are eggs!

Watch the chicken breasts - they will inject them with sugar.

I like Newman's Italian salad dressing - its just about the only convenience food I buy.

I keep away from all those Atkin's Bars. If I want a treat, I have a square of Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa Solids Chocholate - break it into 1/4 inch suares and make it last! The taste is very ric and it beats diabetic chocolate.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
            he said, 'Don't count calories.'

              Thanks for the replies everyone.

Just one question tho, Labarum ......... Doesn't Newmans Own dressing, particularly the Balsamic Vinegar dressing have sugar in?
