  • Hi - Just Joined

I just joined this forum today - I am 46 and the first time I "did Atkins" was 30 years ago when I was 16. It is not my favorite diet because I get bored with all the cheese and meat, but it is definitely the most effective so I keep coming back. I am getting married Dec 30, so that is my big incentive to lose some weight. I am on Day 6 of Induction - started last Monday. I am still having headaches from time to time - woke up with a killer one this morning - but at least they go away now. My first headache on Day 2 lasted 24 hours.

I have lost 5 pounds so far this week My fiancee and I joined 24-Hr Fitness and got the cheapest plan they had - we can only go Tue-Thu-Sat-Sun. This has actually worked better than being able to go any day, because that is easy to blow off until the next day (then the next, then the next, etc). We haven't missed a workout in over a month - we can't use time as an excuse since they never close, and sometimes we have dragged ourselves up there pretty late. This week was harder since I was feeling a little weak on Induction, so I backed off a bit.

Anyway, I am glad to be here and it is nice to have online support while I am on Atkins.

Welcome aboard! Since this is sort of your second time on Atkins, feel free to drop by the Second Time Around Forum, too! We're a great bunch.

Well, things have changed since you first did Atkins. It's not all about meat and cheese anymore (thank God!) There are TONS of things to eat on induction so you won't be getting bored anytime soon. Check out the recipes forums for some ideas!

Welcome Sarafina. As Finelly said, there is a lot of choices on the Induction list to keep you from getting bored. The recipe section is loaded with a variety of ways to cook soups, pork, chicken, tuna, fish, meat and casseroles.

Congratulations on the 5 pound loss and your upcoming wedding in December. The ADBB sight has several forums that will give you lots of information and inspiration as you get healthy and lose weight. Keep us posted on your success!!

Welcome to If boredom is a problem check out this great website...http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/index.html It has helped me tremendously. Linda is a true blessing! There are a lot of helpful and friendly people here. Sometimes we miss stuff though or things get lost in the mix so if you feel something is not being paid attention to go ahead and bump it up. The weekdays are best because ADBB is pretty slow on weekends and holidays. Glad to have you here!

          Oho!

Another Atkins old-timer (I mean that in a positive way!)

When I first started Atkins it was in 1984!

A LOT has changed since then! Definitely buy the latest version of your 2002 Atkins Diet Revolution from Amazon.com (I bought mine used for like a dollar), and read up on the latest developments in the science of low-carb eating with less 'pain'!

I have to say I love following the 2002 version MUCH more than the older versions. Also, because science has discovered so much, we now realize the older versions were definitely problematic.

So, welcome to the newer and thinner you, cutie pie! Soon you'll be sacheting up that aisle and workin' it, honey!

hi sarafina! congratulations on joining your gym! thats great! i'm also 46 and I have to say Atkins is my favorite lifestyle of all time becase it stabalized my diabetes, helped me lose 38 pounds and freed me from binging. i firmly believe that if you allow yourself to fall into ketosis and stay there, you will soon learn new eating habits. i never tire of the staples (VEGGIES, FISH, meat, cheese, eggs) because ketosis eliminated my crazy carbage cravings. if you keep trying new recipes you won't get bored. there are numerous resources available for exciting new dishes all over the net, and in the bookstores, and of course check out the recipe forum here at the ADBB.

Hi Sarafina - welcome to ADBB!

As Finelly and dear Cleo has told you much has changed from the 1972 version of the Diet. Salad Vegetables and low sugar other vegetables are much more a part of the WOE than back then, which should open many new ways to prepare the staples. Anyhow, browse around the place, and make sure you FAQ's forums. There were a lot of items in there that cleared up misconception in my head when I started. (Boy there were many of them!)

Glad you joined our family of Atkineers!
