  • Feeling blue :(

I dont know if it's a normal reaction, but i feel like since all my weights done is fluctuate up and down since i started last Tuesday. I have been following strict induction rules....drinking about 120 ounces of water every day...My ketone strips are turning med pink...but the weight keeps going up and down.

Maybe im not being patient enough.

Hang in there. Patience is such a virtue with this woe. If you're eating your Atkins properly, drinking all the water you need and exercising you WILL see results. You've probably seen it plastered all over this board, but truly, stay away from the scales. Try to go a whole week without them, and don't forget to measure!

      Re: Feeling blue

It probably has to do with salt. Sometimes, due to increased meat eating, we ingest more salt in this WOE. Cut out the salt for a few days and don't forget to at least walk 30mins a day. Exercise daily and the weight will practically fall off.

Oh, and if you are getting down 120oz of water, you can do more than me! Congrats!

Toss your scale out the window.

        I'll wait here.

        *whistling*

Now that we've taken care of that, stop thinking about this exercise as one where weight determines happiness. We, as a society place far too much emphasis on the numbers rather than on well-being.

        How do you feel?
        Do you have more energy?
Are you in more control of what you eat?
Do you feel like there is suddenly hope, and it won't be found at the bottom of a can of Pringles?

        If so, woohoo!

And don't go looking for that scale, either. I snuck it from the sideyard.

Do scales go to heaven when they die? Who knows. They just look that weigh.

hahah, well thats what i needed. a good laugh. I have to say it's hard for me to get out and work out right now, but im going to try whatever i can. even if i have to get a video at home.
I will stop replying on my scale.

I have noticed, more energy and no longer crave sweets and things like that. so thats good.

Ill have to take out a pair of pre-prego pants and keep trying to measure the loss that way by trying them on.

              Re: Feeling blue

That's the story of my life. I hit a certain weight, then I go up, up, down a tiny bit, up, down another tiny bit, up, down, up, up, and then all the way back down. Sometimes, early on, I used to wonder if I'd hallucinated the new low weight, since it was never heard from again, at least for several days........

I've decided this is my body's pattern, so now I expect it, and embrace it (in a coldly polite fashion) and don't get all bent out of shape.

First of all Congratulations on your babies, and twins! You are definatly busy. I am a mom too so I can kind of understand what your going through and I only have 1. I do most of my workouts at home and I have gotten a pretty nice collection so far. If I may recommend the Walking Away the Tapes. They are a great workout program and they come in different mile increments. I use the 3 mile one now but they also have 1 and 2 miles. It's pretty fun and you can do it in the privacy of your own home!

You know I was the same problem with the scale and then I decided to put it away. It has really liberated me so much. That would be my recommendation, stay away from the scale, and don't worry about the weight fluctuation you have seen it is probably the water that you are drinking, it takes your body a little while to get acustomed to this WOL. I think I've heard it said on here that your not supposed to weight until the end of week 2 that way your not freaked out about the fluctuations.

Well good luck, we're all here for you if you need us.

                  What they all said.
And a suggestion for anyone worrying about a daily fluctuation in the scales reading - take a look at this thread 'Weightloss is not linear'

                  It might reassure you.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                    Re: Feeling blue

IMHO not everyone has a great whooshie loss in induction, I didn't, but fortunately its not an indication of future sucess. Hang in there.

                            Re: Feeling blue

When I first started Atkins, I was rebounding from years and years of crazy food behavior and carb addiction. It took some time for me to fully recognize the positive mental aspects of the Atkins program. Carb addiction had taken over my sanity and my life and definately gave me the blues. Once ketosis kicked in for good my blues all went away.

Now after sticking faithfully to the Atkins program for 7 months I have found my moods, my focus, my attention does not revolve around what is happening with my weight.

I no longer waste a neuron brooding about my weight or my body. I just enjoy every day immensly and love my ever changing body. I feed it, I nourish it, and it is free to do whatever it wants to do. I certainly don't waste anytime watching the scale. I haven't weighed in about 3 months now and if I do weight again it will be in the doctors office for medical purposes - never to monitor my weight again. I have better things to do.
