  • How to do induction?

    Hi all,

I read the book , well, books to be precise.
Yesterday was the day I started induction. Breakfast was an omelet at 6.30am , which I truly enjoyed. Around midmorning however, I felt just plain sick! Eggs that early didn't do my stomach any good. I'm also used to eating lots of sweet sugary foods and I suffer from withdrawel almost right away. Which basically makes me more determined to do Atkins , as I seem to be almost addicted to sugar and that is not the healthiest road to continue on.
Do you maybe have hints or tips to get me through the first week or so? And does anyone maybe have better ideas for breakfast? I prefer to eat something small (maybe a protein shake, is that ok for induction??) before getting to work and then eat something more substantial at about 9 or 10am. Any ideas what I could take with me?
    thanks in advance!

    Re: How to do induction?

Can you face a slice of meat rolled up with a slice of cheese in the morning with a few slices of tomato or some lettuce? That would give you protein, fat and some carbs without sugar or sugar substitutes - which I assume there would be in a protein shake.
One key to success in defeating that sugar monster inside many of us when we started was in not feeding it at all during our first 14 days on induction.
For many ideas scroll down to the recipes forums and click on the 'breakfast' and the 'snacks' forum.
As to the protein shakes in general - you will do better if you concentrate on eating 'real' food on induction
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You don't have to eat eggs as Elizellen has said. And you don't have to eat a "big" breakfast either. If you like you can eat smaller meals throughout the day. Just make sure that whatever you choose to eat is a combination of fats, proteins and carbs.

        Re: How to do induction?

        Hello and welcome!

I am at 1 week of induction and the first few days were hard for me. I had headaches, was tired, and just felt plain terrible. As soon as I got over that I felt such a rush of energy. It was amazing! I think you kinda just have to wait it out. It will pass. Something you could try made ahead of time is Wrap a piece of bacon around a muffin pan, cook up sausage crumble it at the bottom of the muffin pan, then crack an egg into a bowl stir it up, dump it into the muffin pan on top. Bake this at 350 and when the egg looks done top it with some grated cheedar cheese put back in oven til it's melted and then you can put them in the fridge. In the morning pop however many into a baggie and away you go! Quick & Easy! I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Oops Eggs don't agree with you sorry I must have missed that. You can always have something else like a chicken salad maybe or a lunch meal or whatever leftovers you may have from the night before.

          Re: How to do induction?

Thanks for you help! I'll check the recipe forums and will go look in the local library for a low carb cookbook, maybe that will give me some ideas too. I do own the book 'The new high protein diet' and 'the new high protein diet cookbook' , does anyone know these? They are available on Amazon.com and amazon.co.uk This doctor alows you to eat one slice of bread per day and also you can eat an orange. I do want to stick to the Atkins rules, but I could maybe use the recipes in those books for ideas.
I think starting this diet may be a bit harder right now. My boyfriend and I are in the process of buying our first house together and this does add to the stress factor.
Anyway, I'll be giving it another try tommorow, I have the afternoon off from work, so I can relax a little more

Hihi, you honestly think I ever have leftovers Let's just say I have a healthy appetite
I do like eggs , but apparently they don't like me early in the morning. I'm gonna experiment a little over the next days, see what works best in my routine
Thanks for your recipe, I'll be trying that for a snack!

            Re: How to do induction?

I used to have a huge appetitie, but after doing Atkins for so long, it's way back in "normal" to minimal range. I'm rarely hungry but make sure I eat at least 3 times a day with some light snacks here and there to keep the blood sugar level.

Two of my favorite induction breakfasts were the homemade egg muffins above (add spinach, broccoli mushrooms to the eggs too) or meatballs (I'd make these on Sunday, and have enough for 2-3 each day). I had a rough time with eggs at first too because I didn't really like eggs, but I think alot of that was from not being used to eating that kind of breakfast and eventually, that passed. Nowadays, I eat eggs for breakfast most of the time, either scrambled or an omelet. I'm still not crazy about eggs, but I know I need to eat them. (salsa and cheese help alot here).

The key is to find something that is easy to make that you will stick with, even if you have to prepare it ahead of time.
