  • Two weeks are over, and the results are in!

Well, it's been two weeks on Induction for me (give or take a day), and I must say I do see the results!

    The Results:
    - According to the bathroom scale, I'm down 10 lbs from 185 to 175! I can smell that 160 lb goal.
    - FitTogether.net states I've reduced my body fat by 4%, BMI fell by 1.61, and increased my WHR by .07.
    - The tape measure says:
    - Chest: lost 5.8cm
    - Waist: lost 9.9cm
    - Abdomen: lost 7.7cm
    - Hips: lost 3.8cm
    - Thigh: lost 5.7cm
    - I have a bit more energy and confidence than before, but the momentum to keep going is there!

    How I got there:
    - averaged 1560 calories per day with a ratio of 64/32/4 and 14 net carbs (20 - 6 dietary fiber)
    - I stuck with foods I like:
    - Meats: salmon, tuna, chicken, ground beef, bacon, mozeralla and chedder cheese
    - Veggies: lettuce, green peppers, cucumbers, spinach, green onions
    - Spices: crushed rep peppers, black pepper, a little salt
    - Sauces/Dressings: ranch, olive oil, Heinz vegetable sauce, soy sauce, mayo
    - Went to Harvey's twice and Wendy's once for their burgers (of course, no buns, got the side garden salad with ranch dressing and no carrots, just drank water, and cut out any unnecessary veggies from toppings)
    - Took a multivitamin every day (no fiber supplement though)
    - Drank at least 8 glasses of water every day
    - Only exercised once, and that was for 5 minutes! (I know, I know)
    - I've only tested for ketones once, about a few days ago and got a "moderate" result (dark pink; 40mg/dL)

    Cheats:
    - 2 sips of Coca-Cola Classic (it came with the combo )
    - 1 piece of sushi
    - probably some starch and sugar from a chinese fish dish I had a piece from

    Challenges:
    - School is starting again, so getting use to making a lunch is tough
    - Birthday is coming up and family wants to go to a chinese buffet
    - Finding new recipies for the foods I like

I'm going to stick with the Induction phase for another 2 weeks or so as I want to see if the approach I took above is really effective and not just water loss.

Thanks for all your support everyone! Reading these forums and learning how others do Atkins successfully really helped me get off on a good start!

        These are Opportunities, not challenges!

Making a lunch can be super easy and quick as long as you think ahead. None of my lunches take more than a minute to throw together. Some of my favourites are leftover chicken/beef/pork with raw veggies and a small container of caesar, blue cheese or ranch dressing to dip them in. Takes 2 seconds to throw that together.
Sometimes I'll do up a batch of meatballs (hamburger, spices, some dijon mustard, mix together, roll into pingpong size balls, bake on a baking sheet at 350 for 30 to 45 mins) and keep those in a container in the fridge. You can heat them up with a slice of cheese on them or eat them cold with your veggies and dip.
I always make extra at dinner time so we can make up lunches out of the leftovers as well.
I could go on and on about lunches!

All is not lost at a chinese buffet! I've always been able to find steamed veggies and dry chicken wings or ribs. Ask for some butter for your veggies, or splash them with a bit of soy sauce and you're set.

Finding new recipes is a mouse click away. Check out the recipe forums on the board here, and also click the 'Recipe' tab up on the top toolbar. You'll find lots of good stuff.
Another good recipe site that a lot of us enjoy is
        http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/index.html
She makes everything and gives her reviews and suggestions. I've found quite a few good things there.
I've also found good things at atkins.com BUT they are wanting to push their products, so some of their induction-friendly recipes are a little suspicious. Make sure you've got your Acceptable Foods and your Rules straight so you can decide for yourself what would work for you.
But do try the pork tenderloin in mustard dill sauce..SO good! (I make it with chicken a lot as well)

There is a lot of variety in the Acceptable Foods list, you just have to do a little footwork to suss out new recipes. It can be a lot of fun trying new combinations...I know we've enjoyed it, and I for one like a lot of variety in my meals, and I've never gotten bored.

        Take care, and good job!

Being only 21 and so close to your goal, I hope that you are on a journey different than mine. It was not until I was 38 that I had a fitness wakeup call.
