    Re: Starbucks Atkins Friendly Drink??????

I typically order a double cup tall or grande decaf. americano (espresso and water), with a little bit of room.

When my coffee is ready I ask them if I can pour in a bit of heavy whipping cream myself, as that allows me to ensure I am not using too much.

The drink is basically decaf. espresso, water, and a few Tbsp. of heavy whipping cream. It is a wonderful way to start the day.

On a body chemistry side, caffine spikes insulin and insulin moves fat from the blood stream to your adipose tissues... so, less caffine, less fat storage. And even decaf has caffine in it.

          Thanks for any help!!
There is NOTHING aside from black coffee that is induction friendly at STarbucks (except I guess Green Tea).

The reason this won't work is that every starbucks I've ever been to - and i've been to a million of'em - puts vanilla syrup in their whipped cream. Think sugar..sugar...sugar.

Sometiems in a city you'll find one that doesn't - but that's rare.

My advice - skip it. I've never followed Dr. A's absolute prohibitition against caffeine - but the Stbx fancy drinks are a mess.

              Atkins - Acceptable Foods

              * Caffeine can cause cravings or blood sugar spikes with some people. If you’re one of them, you should drink only decaffeinated beverages. If you don’t have a problem with caffeine, you may drink one or two caffeinated beverages a day, because evolving research indicates there may actually be health benefits to a limited amount of caffeine. However, if you have a true caffeine addiction, it will be best to break it during Induction, because any food addiction can cause problems if it isn’t taken care of. Once you’ve broken the addiction and moved on to OWL, you can carefully try adding caffeinated beverages back into your food intake, as long as it doesn’t trigger the addiction again.

I didn't read all of the replies to this thread...so this may already be stated. I used to drink breve lattes (that's what they call them when they're made with cream instead of milk)..they're bad news. They totally make you stall, if not gain weight, and they're not induction friendly.

my recommendation..if you like drip coffee...I'd go with that. But the other drink that I have often is:

Iced grande sugar free vanilla with cream americano.

an americano is just water and espresso mixed. Toss in a couple Tbsps of cream, and some sugar free vanilla and you're set. Sometimes I get them hot and not iced as well. They don't taste as good as a breve, but a good alternative.

I think there's a lot of confusion in this thread...and some people are saying "whipping cream" referring to 1/2 & 1/2...or cream. You're right, their whipped cream is made with vanilla syrup. and from now on, people should refer to 1/2 & 1/2, as cream and not "whipping cream"

ooooooh man, vanilla syrup is not used in lattes. a latte is milk and espresso. If you don't clarify what kind of milk you want, they use whole milk. if you say non-fat, they use non-fat/skim milk...if you say 1% they mix the whole and the skim milk together (and they don't use an exact science)..they do the same for 2% requests as well.

What people are talking about, with the vanilla syrup is actual whip cream.

like if you get a mocha, and they ask if you if you want that with "whip cream". They don't use cool whip, they pour whipping cream into a container, add vanilla syrup, then twist on a C02 cartridge and it makes it fluffy.

You don't get whip cream unless you ask, and it's obvious if your drink has it (its that white fluffy stuff on top)

vanilla syrup is only used in lattes if you say "may i have a vanilla latte"

In fact 1/2 & 1/2 is a mix of milk and cream, so not 'legal' on induction.

Stick to plain cream until you are at the dairy rung of OWL where milk is allowed if your body can handle it without stopping weightloss or causing cravings
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I love my coffee too but steer clear of places like Dunkin' Donuts. Instead I drink 1 cup a day of International Coffees sugar free, naturally decaffeined French Vanilla Cafe'. It's not as rich as cream but really hits the spot when I have a craving for something sweet. It only has 30 calories and 2 carbs. I love it!

My mantra is becoming: "If in doubt, then avoid during induction..."

It's just SO easy to get sidetracked and start thinking, "Well, maybe this... maybe that..." I've repeatedly done myself in trying to create my own induction rules.

                          God luck to everyone!

the vanilla syrup at starbucks is sweetened with aspartame, or used to be. the SF hazelnut is sweetened with splenda.

I like to get a decaf triple espresso, add sweetner to it, and then pour over a grande iced cup FULL of ice. mix. ask for unwhipped whipping cream, and voila! or if you have COFFEE CREAM (not half and half) on the condiment stand, use that. it's 18% mf (half and half is only 10%) so it's closer to whipping cream, and just don't use a ton of it. it's awesome.
