  • Starbucks Atkins Friendly Drink??????

I read somewhere on this board that there was an Atkins-friendly drink at Starbucks. It's a decaf heavy whipping cream latte with sugar-free vanilla syrup.

My questions is, is this drink induction friendly?

    Thanks for any help!!

This question should be in the Induction room...but the answer is no, you can't have that much whipping cream during induction. You can only have 2 - 3 tablespoons of whipping cream during induction.

The above information is incorrect. There is a very common misconception about the amount of cream you are allowed on induction.

In DANDR, (pg. 129 in my PB copy) Under special category foods it says,

To add variety, each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice.
If there is less than 3 oz. of cream in it, and the cream doesn't cause you stall - then I say go for it and enjoy your latte.

Another section of the book specifically states 3 tbs of cream. I wish someone would clear this up.

I agree with the comments about it being individual. I've read some posts where latte's have hurt big time. I never went over 3 tbs in a day so I can't comment there.

regardless of how much cream you can have, if you're talking about the whipped cream, you can't have it. I used to work at a starbucks and that stuff is made with normal vanilla syrup and whipping cream.

This one's not made with normal syrup or whipping cream. What they're talking about is a decaf breve sugar-free vanilla latte. It replaces real espresso with decaf, milk with heavy cream, and the vanilla syrup with sugar free syrup. I think that a tall one would be about 3 oz of heavy cream, maybe a little more but not by much since I forget if it's one shot of espresso or two for that size.

I do have to say, being a fan of all things coffee, that I wouldn't even drink this during induction.

I usually go to Dunkin' Donuts and grab and Iced Coffee with Splenda and Cream, those are induction friendly but don't overdue it on the cream as it can make you stall.

                Re: Starbucks Atkins Friendly Drink??????

I just wanted to add a suggestion that I've been following lately. Since I love iced coffees from Dunkin Donuts, I knew that the amount of cream might be a problem. But I wasn't really digging drinking it black with some Splenda. And, since sometimes I feel like I need to add more protein, one day I decided to put my vanilla protein powder (only 2g per scoop) into my coffee. And guess what? It lightens the coffee just like milk...add two packets of splenda and you have a delicious coffee packed with protein and w/o all the fat from cream! Now I use protein powder to lighten my coffee. =)

P.s. The powder mixes easier if you wait for all the ice to melt first, or remove it with a spoon.

Aren't you supposed to avoid caffeine on induction?

I was thinking we were all on the same track of them being decaf coffee... sorry for not clarifying.

whipped cream at Starbucks is made with vanilla syrup, the sugar free syrup is added to the coffee, it's not the one in the cream.

I would suggest a tall latte with sugarfree syrup (there is vanilla and hazelnut) but without the cream.

otherwise a decaf coffee of the house with heavy cream and added sugarfree syrup.
it's very nice to try the different coffees.

Also if I remember well they made a toffee nut sugarfree.

Ok, just to clarify, we have all said don't eat the whipped cream (obviously). I believe the only difference between the drink/nutrition information I gave in my earlier post and the one Roshen is suggesting is that I gave the one made with heavy cream (not whipped cream) while the one she is suggesting is made with milk. None of the lattes are made with whipped cream, if you want it, you have to ask for it. The cream is in place of the milk in the coffee (hence the breve) which makes it higher fat/lower carb.

On a different note - I need to go to your Starbucks since neither of the ones I frequent offer the Toffee Nut sugarfree syrup.

My Starbucks don't offer the Toffee Nut either! Sounds great.
