Make sure your jello is not sweetened with aspartame.

Anyhow, maybe you can change the cookies and donut habit with your children by offering them a fresh fruit salad instead. Starting them off with good eating habits will help them avoid obesity when they are older children and adults.

*hands on hips* (Here comes the guilt portion of the program) Don't feed the kids that! Chances are 50/50 they have your same blood sugar issues! You're putting them in the habit oof eating before bedtime and using food to share a special moment. This is programming them with some habits you might want to think about.

(Now for the happy vibe portion)

Why don't you all (depending on where you are in Atkins) enjoy a yummy snack of macadamia nuts in the evening? Or berries? Sugar-free jell-o is better for them, too.

Start looking for solutions for your kids, as well as for yourself! They'll thank you with a long and healthy life.

              Re: A good evening snack?

I am on the 8th cheat free days of induction. Some favorite snacks of mine have been:
              Celery and blue cheese dressing
Mock danish - before a birthday party i felt like i needed the replacement for cake, it worked
Last night, i sliced a tomato thin, topped it with turkey pepperoni and mozzerella, italian seasoning and it tasted like pizza.
So many ideas, i am going to try the sf jello and cream cheese. Last go around sugar substitutes were my problem, they cause me to crave, this time, i have avoided it, and i have no cravings. YEAH!!!!

If the sugar substitutes were your downfall the last time you were on Atkins, you might want to reconsider using sugar free jello/gelatin at this point because they too are sweetened with a sugar substitute.

Cookies and donuts? Whoa there Nellie....
Sugar has no nutritional value. None. Sugar is poisen - for everyone, not just for Atkineers.

Beginning Atkins is a time to face our behavior with cold hard honesty. When it comes to food, we aren't doing it for the kids. Who are we kidding?

If we want our freedom, we can never use the kids as an excuse again.

Keep your loving ritual with your kids but stop snarfing the carbola.

If you are feel like you need a treat, you might want to examine whether you are trying to fulfill a mental hang up, or whether real hunger is involved.

If real hunger is involved you may not be eating enough at mealtime. If you are hungry, eat more.

If it is a mental hang up, do eat some Atkins friendly food, but also recognize that you are eating when you aren't hungry.

I used to make a little check mark in my notebook when I did this. At the end of the day I tried to determine how many times I wanted to eat when I wasn't hungry. It was illuminating. It happened lots.

What was going on? What was I denying myself? What was I really wanting at that time?

Usually I was seeking something else that I wasn't giving myself.

Attention, a bath, some fun, a nap, a hug, emotional support, entertainment, communication. etc. etc. etc.

It became very clear to me over time that food was being used as an emotional prop. And it didn't work. Even when I ate I wasn't emotionally satisfied.

Now I work on being much more supportive of myself and giving myself what I'm longing for in the moment I long for it. My interest in snacking has been really curtailed since doing this. Usually if I address the issue that is really bugging me I forget all about eating.

Part of this journey for me has been learning not to use food as my emotional pacifier but as my fuel.

If you are following the acceptable foods list to the letter you should be getting plenty of food. And yes, of course you can have snacks.

But make them Atkins friendly snacks.

Chop up some crunchy jicama. Nuke a few cheese crisps.

Introduce yourself and the kidlets to the mock danish.
you can add different flavorings to it - my current favorite is cherry...almond, rum, caramel, pineapple and vanilla have also tasted good.

Recruit your mom to be your diet helper now. Tell her how important it is for you to lose weight and be healthy. Tell her you need her help and support with this. Go over the rules of Induction and the Induction Acceptable Foods list with her. I'm sure your mom will understand and stop tempting you with foods you cannot have and start supporting you on your weight loss journey.
