  • Day 7 no weight loss ??

Yesterday was day 7 for me on the Induction phase and I was so discouraged waking up getting on that scale and seeing no loss. So I ate 3 chocolate chip muffins. Im back on track today but wondering if I might be eating too much fat. Should I be counting my fat intake? I thought I'm counting carbs only ?

    Help

It's perfectly normal for some folks not to lose weight during the first week. Some folks will lose weight on week 1 and nothing on week 2. Others will lose during week 2 but nothing during week 1. And others will lose during both weeks. That's why Dr. Atkins (and us) advise that you not weigh or measure until Day 14.

Atkins is a high fat diet. So if you are following the Induction Rules and eating off the Induction food list, your fat intake will be on target.

Make sure you are exercising and drinking your water. Also if you are using any of the low carb products, like the bars/shakes/bread/non-dairy beverages, you might want to consider dropping those from your diet. Yes, I realize that atkins.com says those products are "okay" for Induction. But it's been our experience here at ADBB that some of those low carb products slow down or stop weight loss.

The other thing is you have to be careful about measuring your food. Some foods, like salad dressings and mayonnaiseare easily over estimated and so the carb count is underestimated.

Thank you. I have been eating Atkins bars daily. I guess I'll try doing without.

Dont be discouraged. I have to say, i've been on induction for almost a month now. I've only lost 10lbs on the scale. I doubt i've lost inches. BUT, it's only been recently that i stopped feeling hungry all the time, controlled my appetite, and felt energy. Im sure ill be losing more soon, But the point is, everyone is different. Some dont lose right away (ME) But i do feel better. If you can keep the long term goal in sight and not just want immediete results, i think you'll feel less discouraged. As long as you're eating all induction friendly foods, drinking water, and getting some excersize in, you'll do fine.

Check out fitday. com, it really helps!

Post your numbers (current weight, goal weight)
Post your typical menu in the Review My Menu forum

If you don't have alot of weight to lose, or if you were already on a low-carb type or similar diet, you might not lose much during induction.

Menus is where most people have problems, as there is alot of confusion between what Atkins the company published and what Dr. Atkins really intended. People here are experts on knowing what works and doesn't, and will help you tweak things to make em work, trust me.
          Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"

          Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
          Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

          Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
          Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
          Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!

I'm assuming you've read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002, DANDR for short?

You might want to think about using Fitday.com. It's a really useful tool that can tell you where you are with your foods. Here's a link to help you learn how it works...if you've journaled your first weeks foods from day to day, enter them in and have a look at the numbers.
            http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5235

We don't support the use of things like the bars and shakes on this board...we encourage people to learn how to turn to real, fresh, unprocessed foods and get away from pre-made things. I'll bet you'll see progress once you replace the bars with actual food.
Please come down to the "Review My Menu" forum and post a day or two of what you've eaten and we can have a closer look at it. Between that, dropping the bars and Fitday we should be able to turn you into the big loser you want to be...lol

And we strive to eat 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs most of which come from the veggie lists on induction. As Moochiecat said, fitday will be a great tool to see how you're doing. In fact, if you're following the rules of induction, you won't have to count your carbs either.
