Re: please help im new to atkins

Okay...first let me say that you will not technically be doing induction..but your own modified diet of Atkins that includes SF jelly, fruit and alcohol. I won't beat you up about that but will tell you that you cannot necessarily expect to get the results you see others posting. You will get out of the way of eating exactly what you put into it.

That aside...I think you can also mix them with club soda. Some will say diet pop...but again that can cause a stall..for some they can drink it. Also I think I read that alcohol stops you from burning fat as your body switches to burning the alcohol off. This will set you back and slow your weight loss even further. I would suggest that you be the designated driver for the night. And dance, dance dance dance.
    Just my opinions!!

Do you like chicken and fish? You dont have to eat red meat if you don't like it
The main reason we say try to avoid the jelly is that if you can stop eating sweet things during induction you may manage to lose the urge for sweet things which will help you on your weightloss journey.

If you cant avoid it then make sure your sweet foods are sweetened with splenda or one of the other allowed sweeteners. You can get plain unflavoured gelatin and use splenda sweetened sugarfree flavoured syrup to make your own 'jelly'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            11st 5pound im now 11st 6.8 is it normal
            Perfectly normal, Debbie
There is an interesting and reassuring post from Moochiecat about this phenomenon. here is a snippet from it but read the whole thing if you have time
Weight can and will bobble around day to day before it truly comes off...and this is true for any stage of weight loss. It'd be terrific if we could bank on losing x amount every day, but that's just not how it works. Some days you'll be down, some days you can be up a little. It can depend on all sorts of things...for example the amount of sodium you ate the previous day, and in the case of women, it could be TOM messing around with you.
Don't sweat the day to day fluctuations. There's just no point to it. Set a day to weigh in, journal what the number is, and then put the scale away. At the end of each month, evaluate your progress, and check yourself to see if you're sticking to the Rules.
And here is a linik to the thread

Here is a link to an article that is under the FAQ that talks about vegetarians.
              http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6729
Also click on the search button and type in vegetarian and you get 118 hits. You will have to wade through them to see what is helpful to you but it will be worth the effort if you really don't like meat. Also be aware that meat is not the only thing that has protein in it. 2 extra large eggs gives you 15g of protein. And cheese, cucumbers, salad and all sorts of vegies. Even salad dressing may have 1g. If you go to fitday and enter some items in you will see.

Re: please help im new to atkins

trysohard, get off the scale. don't weigh for at least two weeks.

your focus needs to be on eating the healthy foods from the approved food lists in the quantities suggested and drinking 64 ounces of water everyday. don't distract yourself from that goal.

it is totally normal for the scale to fluctuate, which is why it is best to just ignore it. you don't have to worry. if you are following the rules as Dr Atkins has written them, you are not going to gain weight.

you must be patient. if you are addicted to carbs and your body has been abused with carbage for a long time, it needs time to make the adjustment to healthier eating.

after all, if you have been a person who has starved and/or stuffed your body over and over again, it doesn't know yet that it can trust you to keep feeding it regular nutritious meals.

keep eating well and give your body all the time it needs to make new changes.

it is important to stay on Atkins at least 3 months or more before you evaluate your progress. i promise that if you faithfully stick to Atkins for 3 months you will be very pleased with your appearence. and even better than that, you will free yourself from carb addiction.

I went from a size 22 to a size 16 in 3 months and my weight on the scale stayed at 190 pounds and didn't budge. I don't know why. But I don't care. I'm a size 16! My clothes are loose! I feel great! If you get in ketosis and stay there, you will burn fat, you will lose inches and your will go down in sizes.

Relax and let the ketosis do its magic.

Re: please help im new to atkins

this is my third day and iv lost a pound in weight but the biggest difference is how my cloths fit my size 14s are just about dropping down themselvs and this is with the jelly and cream cheat so iv decided to do it as close to 100% as i can my aim for today no jelly, no decaffinated coffe with cream and iv gave my nuts away so ill be drinking 8 8oz glasses of water per day and ill stick to cheddar cheese chicken, ham slices eggs a few cherry tomatoes and lettuce for salad and are pork rinds ok on induction? cos iv been having like 3-4 very small bags throughout the day but i can stop if need be.

trysohard, get off the scale, please. do as dr atkins suggests.

if you allow yourself to fall into ketosis and stay there you will soon find you don't have to "trysohard" to stick to the atkins lifestyle. it will be comfortable and natural for you.

if you want to do induction 100% then you should know that
decaf with a tablespoon of whipped cream is totally ok.
                      just count the carbs.

i could be wrong, but it doesn't appear from the comments that you have made that you have read or understood the book. it sounds like you are winging it. please read the book. if you don't, you will fail. it is really important to understand the science behind this way of life.

pork rinds are not a food I would personally choose to eat on induction simply because it is a packaged, overprocessed food. don't try to substitute the rinds for real meat.

chop up some jicama and snack on that instead. or make a mock danish. your emphasis needs to be eating plenty of fresh food. not packaged.

the atkins lifestyle it is not about denial. it is about learning to prefer food that is healthy for you as opposed to overprocessed food that is not.

you do eat fat on the atkins diet. you do use heavy whipping cream, (you can have 3 tablespoons a day. you eat chicken skin, you eat some bacon grease, and have some real butter. these foods send a chemical signal to the brain that your body is not in starvation mode and it is safe to release the extra fat stores.

it is good that you gave away the nuts for now but don't despair, after you have nailed induction and a couple of owl levels you can re-introduce nuts into your WOE.

keep going and make sure you eat enough - i could be wrong but i get the impression you are still trying to keep your portions very small - almost as if you were trying to be low fat and low carb at the same time.

to make atkins stick you need to eat enough food that you are not hungry and feel satisfied all the time.

this is a lifestyle where you can eat well when you are hungry and absolutely enjoy all of your meals.

if you are doing it right you will be eating more food, at more consistent intervals than ever before - it is a real 90 degree turn from low fat dieting. and it works.
