Hello all I am very new to Atkins. I am on day 8 of induction and have allowed myself to get depressed. I was losing 1lb daily i've been excersizing in the form of walking or rollerskating 3-4x last week. I weighed this a.m. and i gained 3lbs! I'm so disappointed. I'm not giving up but I don't understand what happened. I'm on the verge of tears which is ridiculous I know but I want so badly to be successful at this I was so excited about those 7lbs to now have gained some back hurts...I need support to stay focused.

Re: need encouragement
Hi there and welcome to Atkins!! I'm on the 8 day too. This is my second go-round. I lost 60 pounds on Atkins after the birth of my second child. I just had my third. I promise you, this diet is fail-proof, if you stay committed. It is very possible that you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) if you are steadily exercising. You should consider measuring your various body parts rather than weighing yourself. Also, consider buying "Ketostix" from the drugstore. They are buy all the diabetic testing supplies and will tell you if you are maintaining ketosis. It could be that you are messing up without even knowing it. (I have to stay below 15 carbs to stay in ketosis, thanks to my sucky metabolism
)
Good luck and hang in there, you won't regret it!!!!!!Peace, Jess~

Re: need encouragement
Hello. Welcome to the ADBB. As you know, women gain and lose weight daily due to fluctuations in water retention and hormones. I've been on Atkins for 1 1/2 years, and some days I am heavier than other days regardless of what I ate or how much exercise I did. What I can tell you is that I kept on the plan. I ate according to the plan and I exercised. I continued to drink the water and take my supplements. That is why it is advised that you not weigh daily. It can be discouraging to not see the scales move, or to see them move up sometimes. Take your measurements, they won't lie to you. If you measure every two-three weeks, you will see the results.
Don't quit. It is definitely worth it!!Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Re: need encouragement
I'm with the others...measure yourself. And try, if you can, to weigh no more than once a week. Drink plenty of water and stick to the plan with no cheats and it will work for you!Elsie150

Re: need encouragement
That's totally normal! Its called "P.I.S.S" - or "post induction stall syndrome." If you search for it on the boards, its something you really should read. It'll explain all the science behind why this happens and why its normal.
I experienced the exact same thing - lost 7lbs on Induction, gained back 2.5 lbs at the end of the second week. Reading that post on "P.I.S.S" was a BIG help for me.Current: 194.5 / 179.5 / 145

Re: need encouragement
to all thank-you very much! I'm going to keep trying and I will take your suggestions about not weighing daily. I am so happy to have somewhere to go and people to talk to who understand where I am and where I'm trying to go. Support makes all the difference in the world. A huge THANK-YOU again!
