I have TWO 1500 word essays due on Monday. So I had coffee to keep myself awake. Then I had incredible cravings. So much so that I couldn't stay focused on my work. I spent hours trying to get my mind of food, but I finally caved, convincing myself that I MUST in order to complete my assignments. Thing is, since I had the carbs, I feel depressed. Like...I-want-to-cry depressed. Hopeless. Don't-want-to-live-anymore depression. I was feeling MUCH happier when I was keeping my carbs below 20g. I don't know what to do. I still can't focus on my work because now I'm awake but an emotional mess. I felt normal for 5 days.

Re: Do carbs trigger depression?
If you read through the Induction Acceptable Foods list, you'll find that Dr. Atkins said to avoid caffeine because it can lower your blood sugar. When you blood sugar lowers you develop a relative hypoglycemia. The symptoms of hypoglycemia include poor concentration, hunger, headaches, jitteriness, etc.Originally posted by Lil_miz_dancerI have TWO 1500 word essays due on Monday. As fo carbs triggering depression, I'm not sure if it does or doesn't. But between the caffeine and the carbs you ate, you might have played havoc with your blood sugars. If you read through the Blood Sugar Symptom Test in Chapter 13, you'll see a long list of things that can happen when your blood sugars have swings up and swings down.

Re: Do carbs trigger depression?
yep caffine can stimulate insulin production which lowers blood sugar making your Dr Brain think based on passed experience in eatting you need carbs. A nice Atkins friendly for your phase snack would have stabklized your blood sugar and assisted you in getting your papers done.
Next time tell Dr Brain you want a second opinion and consult your DANDR and ADBB!by the book atkinseer

Re: Do carbs trigger depression?
You might just feel upset that you broke down and sabattoged what you already accomplished. That could have been the result of anything, coffee, ice cream, pizza. Coffee didn't do it, you did. You can get over being upset and depressed by just jumping right back on. Trust me, I know what you are going thorugh with the papers. I am working on my PHD and all I do is struggle to stay awake long enough after work to stay up to write...I do it though, and in time, you will, too. Good luck!!!!F/30

As 2big suggested make sure you have enough Atkins-induction-legal snacks handy for when it happens again.
I hope you got your papers done in time.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
