  • Question about syrups, question about fast food

The last time I did Atkins I ate plenty of Double-Doubles from In-N-Out. I'm not sure that was the right thing to do, even though I lost with no problems. The website says they're 9 carbs. If I order it without spread to bring the carb count down, is this induction friendly? I know it should be simple - all the ingredients look okay. I'm just wondering if there's something hidden in dem there burgers that I don't know about.

My second question is about the carb counts of sugar-free syrups. My Torani sugar-free vanilla label says there are 0 carbs per serving. Is this true? Do I still have to count this somehow? I see a lot of syrups used in induction recipes, so I am assuming it's safe for this phase, but I just wanted to check. I've switched to a tsp. of syrup instead of a Splenda packet in my decaf coffee. Is this an effort in futility? Am I foolin' myself?

Thanks in advance for your insight!

Re: Question about syrups, question about fast food

Hi, Tracy! Welcome to the board.

I fly to L.A. frequently, and always make a point to go to In-N-Out for two Double Doubles Protein Style. I order them without the mystery sauce (by the way, it is not Induction-friendly), and this makes for an incredibly satisfying meal that is entirely Induction-safe. Veggies come before and/or after this meal, as I do not recall seeing salads on the menu! lol

Regarding Splenda syrups, to be on the safe side, I would always count each serving as 1 carb anyway - or as 1 "packet" of your days 3-4 serving allotment of artificial sweeteners.

Hi Sheila! Thanks for the welcome. I pored over your site the other night. You have some great tips and wonderful inspiration there.

So, my Double-Doubles are safe. Whew! (The lettuce and tomato have to count for some of the veggies, right? Right?! )

About the syrup...rats. I was hoping I'd figured out a workaround. Oh, well. Thanks for setting me straight.

Look forward to seeing you around these parts!

Hi, Rissa! Congrats on your loss! I've also lost five pounds. I've also almost lost my mind in the process.

The secret sauce really does make the burger. I ate them protein style with sauce two years ago (the first time I did Atkins) and lost 30 pounds! They were a dietary staple for me. I wonder if maybe the sauce, while not sugar-free, is low enough in carbs that it doesn't cause trouble? No matter, you've got a good idea trying to whip up your own sauce. Maybe there's a low-carb Thousand Island dressing out there somewhere? If I find one I'll give you a holler!
