  • Talk me through this

The first egg nog of the season has hit the store shelves here. My husband and my kids (and, of course, myself) LOVE LOVE LOVE eggnog, so I bought some "for the kids." It's sitting in the fridge...just staring at me.

    I know I can't drink it and I'm fairly certain I won't, but I waaaaaaaant some.

First of all it will quit staring at you if you shut the fridge door ;^). Second...do you really want to undo all your hard work just to drink some eggnog. Every time you say No to the cravings demon you will become stronger.

If you absolutely can't resist I would suggest you try a low carb version.
1 egg, 2 T cream(your induction limit), water (if needed), dash vanilla, 1-2 serving Splenda(limit is 3 perday), dash nutmeg. I have never tried making my own but this seems to be what is in each recipe..well the main ingredients anyway...some have more or less of some stuff but you are limited in induction as to what and how much you can add. So you would have to experiment a little. And I strongly recommend a clean induction for the best results. It is worth it!

I would explain the problem to the family. I would then buy it in small containers so it can be drunk as soon as it comes home. I can deal with buying things I cant have it the calling me from the fridge.

Eggnog? ugh not something that would tempt me - but there are lots of things that do!

DP sat there drinking a fizzy drink tonight - which is one of my big addictions (I haven't had one for five days now and I think that is the longest since I was a child) anyway I really wated some, but just left the room instead and I feel much better for not having it

Eggnog is easy to make. Since you are on Induction, you'll have to stay within your heavy cream allowance.

Substitute 1 cup heavy cream and 3 cups water for the 1 quart of milk and use a sugar substitute.

Please note, just because you'll have an "Atkins friendly" eggnog, doesn't mean you can pig out on it. For our weight loss and our weight maintenance to be successful, we MUST change the eating habits that got us fat in the first place.

Eggnog is VERY Atkins-friendly .. but not that sugar-crap you buy in the store! Make your own!
