  • I think I just blew it :-(

I'm on day 12 of induction and I think I've just blown it.

I've just come out of a breakfast meeting at work, 2.5hrs sitting listening, bored with a tray full of bacon rolls in front of me.

Now I wish I had just picked out some bacon, BUT I've gone and blown it by eating a whole roll.

What should I do, should I avoid eating for the rest of the day or is it too late?
I'm not even sure how many carbs would be in a bread roll.

I am so angry at myself.

I wouldn't avoid your veggie carbs for the rest of the day. The veggies are good for you, as is the nutrients and fiber they provide. This isn't about punishment or paying for food sins. You can't change what's done, but you absolutely can make better decisions for you and your health for the rest of today..and tomorrow...and the day after and the day after that

Damage control, yes. Punishment? No! Eat like you know you should for the rest of the day and chalk it up to experience. Now you know how you feel when you let yourself down and don't keep to the committments you've made to yourself. We've all been there at one time or another.

Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Keep on keepin' on..and STAY OUT OF THE BREAD ROLLS

Thanks for the advice, I've done really well up till now, and have already seen the difference, it's a lame excuse but the situtation this morning is one I would have avoided and planned for had I have known before.

Do you think this set back has cancelled the past 12 days?? am I back to day 1?? (I was planning on extended induction anyway, it worked for me before).

I'm now going to increase my water, have a leaf salad for lunch and a grilled chicken breast on lettace with mayo tonight.

If you're planning on an extended induction, does it really matter what day you call it?!

Some will tell you that you have to start all over again. I'm not one of them. 1 silly roll does not 12 days of being great to yourself cancel! Just don't do it again

Your plan for the day sounds awesome. Now, be warned. You might get bit by the cravings monster. You may get sleepy or not feel so great. It's hard to say how it'll effect you. Just know it and be prepared for it and you'll be just fine. You may have knocked yourself out of ketosis, but it shouldn't take more than a day or so to get back to it.

          Thanks again Brook!!

It's back on the wagon then!! I more than aware of my carb craving monster unfortunately :-( thats what screwed me up last time. I got flu had a few days off the plan then it spiralled out of control. I am NOT going to let that happen this time.
I am going to book my holiday at lunchtime, 1 month in New Zealand, April 2006. My goal is to be in shape for the trip to enjoy all the experiences on offer. (I'm also due to be a best man for my cousin in Feb 06 and I need to look good in a suit!).

P.s. I didn't say in my last post how amazing you look!!! You have done soo well!

No - just count tomorrow as day 13 and carry on sticking to plan.
BTW - welcome to our family - it is good to have another Brit on board.

Stick to your plan. Journal how rotten you feel so that if you think you are going to slip you can read it and remember why you don't want to eat something you shouldn't. Drink extra water today. You can do it!

Think about what you did here...this is an opportunity to really see how far you've come.
You ate the roll....but did you eat a second and a third? Did you go out somewhere and eat more of what you shouldn't be eating? Did you feel compelled to just keep on eating illegal stuff?
Sounds like you ate that roll and then checked yourself. You've talked about what you did, and what you can do to avoid the situation when and if it happens again.
I've gotta say, that's really excellent! Good job looking at it all and learning...that's so great! Make sure you recognize the progress you've made and after you give yourself a little slap on the wrist, give yourself a big pat on the back!

make sure you document what you did and why and how you are feeling so when those bacon rolls call your name next meeting you will have on hand proof that you don't want to answer them. rememeber your always just one bite away from being back on your atkins and in control should you ever jump off again.

Your paln for today sounds like a great job of carb harm control. watch for late evening cravings as you blood sugar stabilizes again.

the only thing this will mess up as far as your akins induction goes is your lost pounds will be slightly off for determining your metabolic resistance tyep on day 15 but since you are planning on doing an extended induction you can fix any problems with your resistance by just eating induction longer and improve your metabolism.

                  happy low carbing

Do some intense cardio for a half to an hour. Get some weight training in there. Go out for a longer walk .. Just anything that would deplete your glycogen stores would get you back into ketosis. Well induction isn't really the best time to get a so-called "refeed", but as you progress and weight loss stalls a bit, getting in a refeed day or even a meal will help raise your metabolism even further. Trick your body into thinking the plague is over, and it'll run "normally" until it realises that there aren't anymore carbs coming in and drop back on metabolism. Just my opinion.

Hi xven welocme to the board.
Your advice on doing a bit of extra exercise is good but the bit about 'getting in a refeed day' is not one we normally give on this board (especially on the induction forum) as many of our members have posted they had problems getting back on track after a planned or non-planned cheat meal.
Better to start to move on up the OWL ladder if you feel tempted to add non-induction foods.

Hi, xven! It's so nice to meet you!

In induction we're trying to get people to de-tox from the carb-cruds in the blood stream. I equate it to the druggie going cold turkey. If we don't detox, the blood sugars don't stabilize and then we never get it out of our systems to hit ketosis and feel the whoopies that comes with feeling good again.
