  • Dinner nightmare

Hi there. I'm on day 4 of induction today, everything went well. Just wanted to share the dinner nightmare..
It's been so very hot the past few days, and this morning it started pouring down, so I thought it would be a nice idea to make the kids some pancakes for dinner. I feel very good, with the induction flu gone since this afternoon, no cravings so I thought I wouldn't have a problem. Long story short, I didn't have any, but I WILL NEVER EVER DO THAT TO MYSELF AGAIN!! It was pure torture! I excused myself after making the last pancake to come log in, to connect with the reason why I'm doing this. I don't want to get on the "I'm depriving myself of all the nice things in life for nothing" excuse, that's why I failed so many times before. In future I'd rather make smart choices and make some other, healthy, legal treat for the kids that we can all enjoy. Don't make this mistake, I almost threw the last 4 days to the dogs over something as trivial as a pancake. I'm so happy now that I didn't give in to the idea (didn't have a craving, just wanted it 'cause I couldn't have it!!). Thanks for all your inspirational stories, that is what helped me tonight.. I know if I can resist that, I can do this all the way!

good for you resisting be carefull you don't get rebound emotional wants later. That can cause you to cheat too.

BUT did you know we have recipes for induction friendly pancakes too?? if you use flax meal of psyllium for fiber from rule 12 you can use the recipes for hotcakes or pancakes in the data base. Or you can do the cream cheese ones or heck even the revolution rolls can be used as hotcakes.

Becareful though cause my foster kiidos loved my flax cakes better then their cakes.

            Re: Dinner nightmare

oh man, do I know how you feel!!!

A month or two into Atkins, we were headed up-island to visit my bf's family, and in the past I would make a cheesecake and take it up for them. I was the Queen of the Cheesecake, and they enjoyed eating them as much as I enjoyed making them. I thought I could handle it, and I was perfectly fine making it, plus the strawberry sauce for it..that was no problem.
The problem happened when we all finished lunch and I sat there and watched them eat my cheesecake. It was awful, because of course they're all going "oh this is soooo good!!" and I kept a smile on my face.
It's an hour and a half drive home and by the time we got home I was absolutely livid and was wretched to my bf...he ended up going out for a big long walk, and I went to bed at 8 pm in the spare bedroom...it was pretty pathetic. I felt so badly the next day.
I totally went into self pity mode...oh poor me, I wasn't allowed to have any yummy treats! What I should have done, was to make something Induction friendly that I could have eaten while they had the cheesecake...but that didn't even cross my mind at the time, I was just too new to Atkins.

It was a really good learning experience, and it showed me how wrapped up I was in food and 'treats'....and how thinking ahead is absolutely key.

Hang in there, and when these sorts of things happen, sit down and think about what is behind it. Once you get untangled from all this stuff, the journey will be much smoother, I promise you.

Thanks for the recipes!! I'll definately try it. For now, I just came from the gym, did my 30 minutes on the treadmill (pant pant) and feel fired up for the day. We live and learn I suppose! I discovered the wonderful world of fitday.com last night, it makes the planning muuuuuuuch easier doesn't it?

I'm sooooooo tempted to get on the scale, but still resisting, I want the BIG surprise at the end of 14 days!

Day 5 here I come!!! Good luck to all of you today..

way to go!!!!! Thats the kinda thing that used to bother me, now I usually cook one item I cannot touch. BF is a little skinny booger that can eat anything he wants and never gain weight. I wil usually make him some kind of carb for dinner and just bypass it. Sometimes I don't make him anything different and he is fine with that too. But he does love his macaroni and cheese! LOL
Caution I BITE! clicky clicky..its tricky rikki!
