  • Salad dressing

I have started induction today. This is my second attempt, but I am better prepared this time around. I have the appropriate mindset and attitude, but more importantly I have the support of my family. I know that my challenge will be eating enough veggies- they are not my favorite. So, that leads me to my question- what kind or brand of salad dressing is acceptable during induction??? It sure would make it easier to eat a salad & veggies if I could have a moderate amount of dressing.
P.S. this network of people is awesome! I have read the past postings and have learned so very much! Thanks to all of you for sharing the knowledge and support.

    Welcome to our family, nickel327

If you were located in UK I could tell you that Lidl's own brand of Mayonnaise has only 0.9 carbs per 100 grams (3.5 ounces) ! This WOE (way of eating) turns us all into label readers, so make sure you check out the labels on which brands your local shops sell to make sure they contain little or (preferably) no sugar before buying.

You will find your first few shopping trips will mean spending much longer choosing what to buy, so give yourself plenty of time - and take your reading glasses if you need them - those labels have such miniscule printing!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: Salad dressing

There are plenty of store-bought dressings you can enjoy...just make sure they aren't sweet ones, like French or Thousand Island. Generally there is no need to buy anything marketed as 'low carb' because most of them are naturally low carb as the ingredients are mainly spices, vinegar, oil, etc.
Italian, Ranch, Greek with Feta (all Kraft) or blue cheese (Renee's or Marie's are really good) Most have only 1 carb per TBS.
You can also make your own. I've thrown together some fantastic dressings over the last few years...but I never measure the proportions exactly, so I can never re-create them...lol

Don't forget you can throw your protein in with your salad. Gotta love Taco Salad. You can do it!

          Nickel,

Hidden Valley Ranch brand is 1 carb for two tablespoons and it is very good on pretty much anything. Oh, I hated ranch before the WOE, so I know it must be good.

            Re: Salad dressing

This leads me to a salad dressing question of my own. I've always assumed that if I choose a salad dressing (say...blue cheese, my fav) that has cheese in it (That Greek with Feta that Moochie mentioned sounds yummy), then I need to take that cheese into account for my daily cheese allotment. True?? False???

Dreamer - For Ranch, Hidden Valley is the only way to go. Even then, it's best to get the packet and make it at home. They tend to put a little vinegar in their bottled product to preserve it better, which changes the flavor.

                    Slimin,

You know, I have never made it myself. But, for dips my Mom always mixes one packet with a 16 oz. tub of sour cream and it is heaven.

Sorry - no deal - this is the induction forum so no milk is allowed!! no matter what anyone not on induction chooses to eat that has milk in it - on induction we are supposed to wait till the dairy rung of OWL - the second rung - to add milk!!

Good suggestion, Barbie-doll - that is the way to go. Adapt and survive - use water to make the cream the needed consistency if you are not yet on the dairy rung !!

You can make a ''not so honey mustard dressing'' with 2tbsp of heavy cream, 2packets of splenda and 2 tbsp of mustard(I use frenches), mix and use on salad. Oil and red wine vinegar never fails.

I'd be leery of using a powdered dressing mix as well....I'm not sure the ingredients are induction friendly...watch out for starches and sugars.

And I agree... err on the side of caution with diluting the heavy cream. You'll get a richer yummier dressing if you do that anyway, so don't bother with the milk.
