  • I REALLY confused about Induction!

Ok, so I've been on induction, and I have been losing weight, but it stopped, then I started to gain weight, which is really irratating! I'm not cheating as far as I'm concerned, but now I'm starting to wonder if what I'm eating is wrong for induction.

I've been sticking to 20g of carbs a day, but included into that is low carb bread, diet soda (mostly diet coke, sometimes caffine free, sometimes not) low carb candy and low carb ketchup.

I make sure not to go over my 20g limit a day, but after reading an induction list online, I'm starting to wonder if I've got induction completely wrong. Should I JUST be sticking to the items on there, and once I've moved onto stage 2, start to eat foods like this?

    Hi Stephbob

Yes you should only be eating the foods on the list for induction and then adding other foods once you've moved into the next stage (not something I have done yet).

I don't use low carb dressings and things, because although they are fairly low in carbs compared to the equivalents they do tend to stall people. Also I don't really think they're made for induction.

Perhaps you could try cutting them out and sticking to the foods on the list and seeing what happens.

Congratulations on your loss so far, and what a gorgeous pic!

Do you have the book? Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. You need to read it and stick to the list of acceptable foods for induction. It's not only sticking to less than 20 grams of carbs a day...there's a lot more to it than that. You're trying to get rid of your cravings for sugar and starchy foods so by eating those low carb products you are not getting rid of your cravings. The diet drinks should go too...stick to water...you need to drink lots of water.

Alrighty, thanks for replying!! Yes, I have a book. I guess I just got a bit confused with it, because it's got the acceptable foods on there, but I also assumed that so long as I kept to less than 20g a day I was ok. But now that I've hit a plateau, and that my weight is starting to creep up and down, I've begun to wonder.

Thanks again for replying. I'll definitely have to re-read my Atkins book (since I haven't read it since I did atkins last time in spring of this year!) and get my facts straight

Hi! and welcome... (and has anybody ever told you that you could be Avril's sister?)

it's best just to stick to the list... I've bent the rules every way possible.. and that's why I've been stuck at the 145 area (and even up to 150) for almost 3 months now..

I think I'm going to start over myself...

          good luck to you!

I don't know who Avril is, but no, nobody's told me that lol

Yeah I think I'll give myself a brand new start today too. I did so well, I lost 18 lbs in 3 weeks, and now I've gained 2 lbs, which isn't much, but when I'm still trying so hard (albeit, by my standards!) it's a shame to see my weight fluctuating like that.

I don't know how I'm going to cope without ketchup though! I've eaten it with almost everything since I was 3 years old, so this is going to be tough, but I'm determined to do it lol

Re: I REALLY confused about Induction!

while you are rereading check the rules in chapter 11 it says eat nothing not on the acceptable foods lists and last time I looked candy and low carb bread were not there nor were the ingredientds in them.

It is normal to hit a hesitation in your weight loss after the initial 14 days as your body catches up with your rapid changes going on and your fluids get back in balance. It will resume again soon but in the mean time make friends with your tape measure and watch the inches of fat melting off even when the scales don't validate your weight loss.

Oh and lastly don't forget TOM will cause fluid retention too so how far till TOM hits you?

              Happy lowcarbing

Give this a read....it'll show you that your weight loss pattern is pretty typical of someone new to Atkins.....you need to relax, keep following the Rules, and eating properly from the Acceptable Foods list and be patient...lots of patience needed in dieting, that's for sure!
