  • Not quite the Whooshie I expected

Okay, I tried the recipe for "Whooshie Pie" that everyone here talks about, and it was absolutely delicious. Awesome, fabulous, kids and DH had seconds, etc. And about 20 minutes after eating it, however, I developed a whole new understanding of the word "whooshie". In my house, "whooshie" now refers to the sound made as I dash past everyone on my way to the bathroom.

Is this how everyone loses so much when they eat Whooshie Pie, or am I allergic to something in the recipe? I mean, I'm sure I would register a major weight drop -- after all, I think I flushed things I ate six months ago!! But not quite the way I like to lose pounds.

How does this recipe effect the rest of you?

Oh, and just for the record: Yesterday, even with the Whooshie Pie debacle, I managed one full day on program. No cheats, so slips. Yay, me.

The "whoosh" is a 5 or 7 pound weight loss that occurs over a 24 hour period. It's a water weight loss, not a fat weight loss. The "whooshie pie" recipe contains several ingredients that are natural diuretics, hence the "whoosh" effect on some people.

IMO, the "whoosh" is an overrated idea that has nothing to do with real weight loss---the loss of fat. It's more of a psychological tool that gives comfort to some folks. In the long run it's better to focus on losing fat, which Dr. Atkins said is represented by the loss of inches.

      Yeah..what she said!

Not to burst any bubbles here, but the Whooshie Pie is not scientifically documented to cause a person to lose weight. A member made it, ate it, experienced a nice little loss and attributed it to the pie. It may or may not have had anything to do with the pie, although horseradish does have a reputation of being a diuretic.

I eat it because its tasty, but I don't believe eating any one particular food is going to give me any sort of miracle drop in weight. It still all boils down to making the right choices and being patient.

Having said that, if believing it's got whooshie powers causes folks to eat something that is Induction-friendly, and yummy to boot, then I'm all for it!

Dear Moochie and everyone, is there a recipe for this Wooshie Pie posted somewhere on this site? I would love to see it if possible!

        Thanks in advance!

I agree with not2late. I believe the 'pie' is over-rated. I like it, however, a few times I've had 1-2 pound loss and other times nothing.

Re: Not quite the Whooshie I expected

Nope coming out the back end isn't whoosie.

a whooshie isn't 5-7 pounds either their is no set weight loss to be a visit from the whooshie fairy.

it is any overnight weight loss that is out of proprotion to your normal weight loss and it is usually a fluid balance corrction like when you lose 0 pounds but lost 4 inches. you know you are smaller but can't figure out why the scale didn't move then you learn from using your search feature on ADBB that when the human body loses weight it doesn't like it and for complicated bio chem reasons needs to retain shape so it stuffs fluid into tissues where fat moolecules are being removed from. Soon the tolerance for the boichem interferance this extra fluid is causing with osmolity and other stuff causes the body to create fluid releasing chemicals and poof overnight you lost several pounds even though you didn't do anything to cause such a loss that faast. this is the pattern you will find during your whole weight loss inches gone no scale movement scalemovement .... no pounds inches gone, sclaes move....

The whooshie pie has several natural diuretics like the horseradish so if you are in the fluid retainging mod of your weight loss and you eat enough of those natural diuretics then poof you got a whooshie the next morning.

The whooshie pie recipe can be found in the recipe link on the top tool bar. Look in the Beef section, and it's called Hamburger Pie....I think it's on the second page of the beef recipes...it's got horseradish and cream cheese in it.

I should have been alittle more clear in my earlier response....the 5-7 pounds over night is an example of a "Whoosh". Again, it's mostly water weight loss, not fat weight loss....
