I'm on day 11 today, I started feeling terrible yesterday. Went to see the doctor, who couldn't find anything really wrong with me. This morning, my little girl (2) called me at 5 am. I almost had an attack when I saw her, the poor baby has mumps. She's so swollen up and looks absolutely miserable. So I take her to the bathroom to wipe her face, and happened to look in the mirror, and TADAAAAA, I've got it too! I look like a chipmunk! Well then, that explains yesterday's feeling horrible? Time to find another doctor...

I had chicken pox on mineOriginally posted by DesertthornLOL, guess who had mumps on her wedding day. ME.....
Take care, lots of chicken soup. You can daughter can spend the next few days cuddling.
Its very hard for a doctor to diagnosis mumps until the symptoms appear.

Re: Mumps
Your 2 year old daughter should have been vaccinated against the virus causing Mumps when she was 1 year old.
Anyhow the Mumps are caused by a virus that attack the salivary glands--hence the swelling at the side of your face. BUT the vaccine only protects against the virus. There are bacteria that can infect the salivary glands too. The bacterial infection is not called "Mumps" but rather acute parotitis. She and you need to be seen by a physician.
Make sure you drink fluids. Warm or cool compresses to the swelling might relieve some of the discomfort.
I hope you both feel better soon.
Editing to add...
Don't share used cups, spoons, forks, etc. Make sure you wash these things in hot soapy water.~Megs~

She was vaccinated - so it probably is only the salivary glands. She doesn't have a fever so I'm bit baffled, also she's not niggly or anything and has no trouble eating or drinking. We'll see the doctor tommorow. I on the other hand am positively miserable, can't swallow, so haven't eaten much today. Trying to keep up with my water though. I really hope the fact that I'm not eating properly won't influence induction.
Thanks for advice!
