Re: Will I Start to Like It?

The recipe idea is a good one! Cutting the meat up into small pieces and mixing it in a salad or other veggies, even a stirfly-ish meal...I think the big hunks of meat can cause that nauseous feeling sometimes.

Re: Will I Start to Like It?

In the beginning I was soon tired of eggs, and that feeling lasted for about a week. But then my palate changed completely and now I prefer eggs and meat everyday and I never get sick of them. I really do beleve your mouth and your taste buds and your appetite and your desires change and adapts if you stick with atkins.

I second tabekat in that your palate will change.
My weakness was sweets/pastries....and the other day I ate 1/4 of an apple (I'm in OWL, mind you) with 1 TBS of peanut butter. I sliced the piece of apple and used the slices to scoop up the peanut butter. It was SICKLY sweet and I won't be doing that again....it gave me a stomach ache.
This is coming from someone who, a year and a half ago, could eat her share of candy bars, and could eat 3 big danish at a shot and not bat an eye.

I very honestly can get quite excited over a piece of really good cheese, or fruit and yogurt with walnuts.

Pre-Atkins if anyone had told me I'd be saying these things, I'd have laughed at them!

Give it time...eat the meats that appeal to you, but don't force them down so that it becomes a torture to you. Experiment and enjoy your foods.

Re: Will I Start to Like It?

I've had that problem everytime i've tried Atkins. It doesnt just go away, well, not for me anyway. I had to teach myself to cook and eat. I found that once I learned how to make proper meals, I was fine and I haven't had a problem since. I've never cooked before, I've had a few failed attempts, but in the end I realized that I had to do it, and if I couldnt face another meal of chicken, chicken, or chicken, then I had to do something about it, so I learned how to vary my meals, and now I manage well!

Re: Will I Start to Like It?

I agree with all of the sage advice put forth on this thread.

Let me tell you a little something about me.

I used to be a vegetarian. I hated meat. HATED. Did I say "HATED" with enough emphasis yet?

I hated FAT. Loathed fat. FAT. Blech. OK, with the emphasis already.

Vegetables? What are those? Emphasis again.

So, I was a vegetarian who ate mostly fruit and milk. That was more like a lacto-milkarianfruityfruiter. Who ate things like pizza.

So, you get the picture. I hated anything to do with this way of eating. YES, your taste buds definitely change! You get there by purging your body of the 'drugs'/carbs that have inundated the system for years. And the corn syrup solids and other bleckers that tricked our brain into thinking the processed foods we ate actually tasted good.

When you go and try eating naturally, you are going to find that not only do your taste buds change, but you will actually crave the taste of a roast steeped in its own juices, and that nothing tastes so sweet as a vine-ripened cherry tomato. In fact, even strawberries might end up being too sweet for your tastes when you hit that rung.

While at first, the thought of eating the things I detested and that society told me I ought not eat was extremely putting me off, I am not so much happier than I ever was. My blood sugar is happy, my brain sensors are happy, my doctor is happy, and my waistband is happy! It is worth having to shift the paradigm a little and learn a new way to appreciate food. It's literally a life-saver for many, in fact! Especially those of us with wonky blood sugars.

so how was breakfast this morning?

Boco burgers if you had them before are very Atkins vegetarian induction safe too.

Re: Will I Start to Like It?

I eat very little meat, and when I do, it tends to be smoked meat, because I just can't stand plain meat, no matter how you cook it.

I am also not a breakfast person, unless breakfast is a huge bowl of Lucky Charms. What I often end up doing is popping something into a tupperware container to eat at work around 8 or 9 p.m. Certainly not when I first wake up - then I just have coffee with cream.

Some things to try, any time of day:

                1. Any veggies but salad. I like to slice up zuchini, dip them in beaten egg, roll them in parmesan, and fry them until pretty crispy. I also like to sautee raw spinach in salted butter until JUST wilted, then sprinkle with a couple of drops of lemon juice. You can make zuchini fritters by grating zuchini, adding a raw egg and some spices (salt, pepper and garlic if you want salty, a dash of splenda, salt, and ground ginger and nutmeg if you are adventurous), then fry like pancakes. Top with a bit of sour cream or salsa or both, and yummy!. Chop up cucumber and chives, add a tablespoon of ranch dressing, and the texture and crunchiness are great.

                2. Souffles. Egg yolks, beaten egg whites, and almost anything cooks up good. Canned pumpkin plus splenda plus pumpkin pie spice is a great breakfast. Canned green chiles plus cheddar or jack cheese is also good. Play around. Do it without beaten egg whites (ie, the whole egg beaten) and you have a crustless quiche, which is great if you add cheese and water chestnuts, sliced.

                3. Devilled eggs. Ohmygod. I could eat 10 a day, but usually just 2.

Also, don't forget that you can start moving up the OWL rungs any time after the two weeks of induction, and then you can use nuts or extra veggies or even additional dairy products to supplement your menu.

I like the sound of those zucini pancakes.

I had the tuna wrapped in lettuce this morning and it went down pretty easy. I think what I'm going to start doing is making induction friendly meals for both my girls and I (instead of making two seperate meals) and then just adding fruit, veg, milk to their meal.

sounds like a great plan there.
