  • End of 2 Week Induction

Today is day 14 of my induction. I am down 16 pounds and am not craving anything bad anymore. My kids even made cookies at their grandmothers yesterday and I didn't have to hold myself back from grabbing them.

I read all the recent posts about constipation, but they don't seem to fit my situation exactly. Today is day 9 of no bowel movement. For the first few days I had diarhea, now nothing. I've been taking metamucil pills with physillium husk, but that didn't work so last night and the night before I took two extra strength Ex-Lax because I am starting to worry about having all this waste in my body. Yesterday and again today I also tried a glycerin suppository. STILL NOTHING. I don't have any pain or cramping and I have been drinking a lot of water. I have been eating my salad and vegetables like I'm supposed to. I have been eating between 1400 - 1800 calories/day as well (around 70% fat usually).

Do you think my body is using up most of what I am eating and that is why I'm not having a bowel movement? Did anyone else go this long without a BM? Do you think it may be dangerous?

Thanks for all the support from everyone thus far.

      Congratulations! How inspirational!

Yes, when I did Atkins two years ago, I went more than a week without bowel movement. I went to the pharmacist and took a spoonful of milk of magnesia. Solved that problem. The other thing to do is take a teaspoon or two of olive oil. It's weird, but it works. I read this on the old atkins diet bulletin board...i'm not sure if it's in the new one.

Thanks Betty and Kinkay. I'm wondering if the magnesium supplements and milk of magnesia work the same way. I'm definately going to ask the pharmacist tommorrow if nothing comes up (out) tonight. I just took two spoonfuls of olive oil so maybe that will work.

Betty - you look really young and healthy in your pics. How much weight did you lose? Or did you start this WOE for your blood pressure?

Kinkay - when you were on Atkins two years ago, how much did you lose?

I'm really happy about the 16 pound loss and I'm hoping the "slowdown" everyone talks about just doesn't happen to me. (yeah right!)

I hope the olive oil works for you.

When I did Atkins, I lost 10 lbs, which got me to my goal in a month. I didn't exercise back then. I didn't have a lot to lose back then because I just wanted to lose the holiday gain. I made the mistake of not progressing through the rungs, and gained it all back plus more. Now, many losses and gains later, I'm 20 lbs heavier than I was when I first started Atkins. I don't like the "skinny" look, so I'm just striving to look "comfortable" in my own skin.

Re: End of 2 Week Induction

Thanks Kinkay. The olive oil did seem to work but there wasn't much produced for going 9 days without a BM. I'm going to take a spoonful every day for a couple of days to try and keep everything regular.

I have a "skinny" goal for now, but like you I just want to be comfortable with myself. I want to feel happy about shopping for clothes and not have to worry about which fat roll will show when I sit down. I think I am going to continue with extended induction until I reach 135 and then go to OWL and the rest of the rungs. Ya never know, maybe 130 - 135 will be my comfortable weight.

I'm always glad to be reminded about the very real possibility of regaining the weight. I NEVER want that to happen once I reach goal. Atkins is my WOE for life. It's suprising how much easier it is to say that now than it was even a week ago.

Re: End of 2 Week Induction

Oh, I should add that I tried both milk of magnesia and olive oil (on different occasions, of course). Supposedly, milk of magnesia makes one "relieve" more, but I found that even after 10 days of not going to the loo, there was a surprisingly small amount of BM. So, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Since we consume so much fat, I only assume that breathe it out in the form of ketones, so there isn't much to excrete in the first place.
