    Hi and welcome.

At this point you really don't have to count calories. Dr. Atkins hoped that the appetite-suppressing effect of lipolysis/ketosis would help us to re-learn the hunger cues we lost. So, eat only that amount to satisfy your hunger. "Satisfy" means you aren't hungry anymore, but that you aren't stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey.

if you are new to Atkins don't worry about the calories right now just eat enough food from the acceptable foods lists to satisfy your hunger every time you get hungry. Once you get your ketosis going your appetite will be suppressed and you will find it takes less food to satisfy your hunger at each time you eat to satisfy it. I started on close to 4000 cals as a 300+ pounder and when ketosis kicked in and i feed my hunger my cals naturally dropped to the mid 2000s then once i got under 200 pounds I discovered I was only eating about 1800 cals on average before i added weight lifting to my exercise plan.

Your life style and exercise along with your metabolism will tell you how many cals you need. Est so you have some fats and someproteins with your veggies at every meal and see where you are.

you can use www.fitday.com to track your foods and see how you are doing. remember Atkins is a ketogenic plan so fats are high at about 65% of your total caloric intake.

When you get further along remember to only feed your hunger and not keep eating the same foods cause we lose about 9 cals burned doing the same think as we lose 1 pounds of body weight so you either increase your active life style and exercise even more or you lower the amount of food you consume.

      Happy low carbing.
