  • Question About Water

Does anybody have a good formula for how much water you should drink? I know it depends on weight and I've often heard 1 oz. per 2 pounds of body weight. But, at my current weight, that seems like quite a bit. That's 137 ounces per day. Is that actually overdoing it? That's like 17-18 glasses a day. When would I have time for anything else? *L*

A good rule of thumb is 1/2 your weight in ounces per day of PLAIN WATER. If you drink other drinks, they do not count toward your water intake. The cool thing about water; the more you drink, the more you want to drink!

64 ounces plus 8 more ounces for every 25 pounds you are over weight and ven more if you are a heavy exerciser or it is hot out.

Read the FAQ on why we need water to lose weight and you will be chugging happily.

Bren our current Admin broke her stall in 2003 just by adding more water to her Atkins plan.

        Re: Question About Water

I use one of those half-gallon (64-ounce) plastic jugs you can find at Walgreen's, and try my absolute best to drink an entire one of these a day. However, I'm not a saint - water is essentially undrinkable to me unless I add lemon juice to the jug, or two packets of Water Sensations (sweetened with Splenda). My favorite is the Strawberry Kiwi flavor, and I find it at Super Target.

Doesn't apply to me. I honestly feel uneasy and a bit sick when I chug down too much water. I see water as more of a requirement, than desire. Like something you have to do, even though you don't like it.

Wow, I have never thought of water like that. I think of it as the perfect beverage. It does not cover the taste of my food, fills me up and makes me feel squishy (good thing on Atkins cause water moves that fat). Try to change your attitide about water and see what happens.

I drink about 192 oz per day. I aim at 128 oz, but I get so cravy for more water that I just have to keep chugging. Gotta love it.

Well, I do find that the more I drink (about 100 ounces a day), then the thirstier I get. I even wake up thirsty in the middle of the night on occasion.

                  Re: Question About Water

I'm not a big fan of water because most of it tastes really bad to me. What's worked for me is getting a Pur Ultimate faucet filter and a stadium cup. I can finish off the cup before the water starts to taste bad, but it's big enough that I don't have to refill it 16 times a day, too.

It also tastes better cold, so consider making ice cubes of filtered water. Rubbermaid makes trays with lids. lol, did I mention taste is a big thing with me?

Be careful with that method of water drinking. Per Dr. Atkins, the only thing that counts towards the daily water minimum is water "tap, spring, mineral or filtered".

                        Re: Question About Water

I don't drink tap water anymore--I can't stand it. So I willingly pay $10/week and buy flouridated or distilled water in gallon jugs. I prefer the infant water with flouride because of the taste (just like the water back home in Michigan), and it's good for my teeth! It's actually pretty easy to make sure I drink it--just have to empty the jug in the course of the day...and that's 128oz. I pour water into my Nalgene bottle, add a lemon slice, and let it freeze overnight. The next day, my water stays cold for hours and hours, and I love to drink it!

I have attempted to drink that 0 calorie carbonated flavored water stuff, but it's too sweet, and I really can't "drink" it the way I drink water...I too, notice a big difference in weight loss success if I drink more water.

                          Water is the best!
I say this because just this last week or so I upped my water intake from 100oz a day to around 170oz after having read all about it thoroughly in this great forum and I have lost a pound a day for the past 6 days.
Can't get better than that! Water is my friend

                            Hello reneewl123!

Yes, it may be 17-18 cups a day ... but who drinks out of 8 ounce glasses????

I drink my water out of a tall, clean, clear water glass that holds 12 ounces. This significantly decreases the number of times you need to refill it. Once I finish a glass, I automatically refill it from the regrigerator dispenser. I also find that I drink some of the new glass right away as the newly poured water is colder than what I just finished.

I drink 2-2.5L a day.. have lost 5lbs in 5 days. I feel fantastic! I am not a water drinker usually. I have not drank coffee for 5 days, big shock to me, since I drank 8+ cups a day! I had major caffeine and sugar withdrawals for the first 2 days but now I am fine.

Don't buy water with additives! Water is FREE! Buy some lemon or lime and pop it in your bottles, no additives in there
