  • A Followup to the hunger post...and GOOD NEWS!

I tried yesterday to eat when I was hungry and only then. I came out to having around 1800 calories and 20 grams carbs. I'm slightly hungry on that, but not starving...just kind of a feeling like, "Food would be good, but I can make it." I know I'm stuck in a low-fat mentality, but I'm trying to get over that...I just feel like 1800 is a lot! Can you guys tell me about how many calories you eat per day to help me get a reference point? I now weigh 270.

As an aside, my husband started with me yesterday as well. He only needs to lose about 15 pounds max (and then add some muscle mass to replace his belly), but he wants to feel better and support me as well. He started at 160 and is down to 158 in one day. But, it's great to have him along for the ride and great we can just eat the same meals. We have no kids, so everything in our house is low-carb. He'll probably only do two weeks of induction and then move on, but we can at least eat the same dinner together from now on and he can add things at his other meals to reduce my temptation!

    Great going!

Again, I want to remind you that counting calories the first 2 weeks is not important. The onus should be on eating properly under the auspices of this way of eating and not caloric deprivation. Because proteins and fats are self-limiting, actively counting calories only adds confusion and unnecessary stress to a way of eating which is different enough from the main American Joe and Jane Rootbeergut diet anyway. There is enough time to worry about calories as you progress through this way of eating. Make your current focus on feeling well, exercising, drinking plenty of water and following this way of eating.

When the time comes and calories matter more than they do now, I recommend this site for calculating general caloric intake needs. http://www.dallasdietitian.com/resources/calcalc.htm

good for you. remember to check your ratios too and if your fats are hwere they should be and if that hunger is 1hr after eating try adding a little more protein to your meal per Dr Atkins suggestions from his medical pactice back before he died.

if the little more protein gets ride of your hunger then your metabolism needs that extra protein.

      Happy low carbing.
