Is cocoa powder &/or Ricotta cheese allowed?

  • #2
    Re: Cocoa Powder Ricotta cheese

Ricotta cheese is not allowed as it is a 'fresh' cheese (cottage cheese falls into the same category) and isn't brought back in until the dairy rung in OWL.

You can mix some cocoa powder, splenda and cream cheese together, freeze them in bite sized blobs and have one or two...make sure to count the appropriate carbs.

Another thing you might want to think about is to face your sugar/chocolate demon and refuse to give in to it. The best time to do this is right now in Induction.

When I had cravings for sweets I would eat something, but I would choose a fat/protein combo (like a boiled egg, or some deli meat wrapped around a piece of cheese) I wanted to show my body that if it was hungry, it would get fed, but if it was craving sweets (a big downfall for a lot of us) it wasn't going to be appeased. I wanted to show my body that things had changed and I was in charge now...not my cravings.
    Just some food for thought....

Thanks Moochiecat! I saw the chocolate recipe in the book so I wanted to know if it were okay. Thanks for the clarity with the cheeses.

        hi Shirley,

When I was on Induction, I found it very, very useful to have the Induction Acceptable Foods List and the Rules of Induction around. In fact, I had 3 copies of them: one copy I stuck on my refrigerator door at home, one copy I put in my desk at work, and one copy I carried with me in my purse. That way, if I came across a food, I could easily look it up.

There's a pocket-sized version of the Foods List. That is found in the first sticky at the top of this forum.

        I hope this helps you.

Thanks! I dont think cocoa is on the induction list anyways. I think I remember most of it for shopping. If I have to, I will make a copy.

Early in my Induction, I saw Jerusalem artichokes at the Farmer's Market. They were beautiful and I was sure they were a legal veggie for Induction. I was about to tell the clerk to give me a couple of pounds, then I checked my List: artichokes were listed, but not the Jerusalem artichokes. It saved me from buying a veggie that I would not have been able to eat until I reached the starchy veggie Rung of OWL Phase.

unsweetened baking cocoa is allowed, it's a spice. Use sparingly though. You want to break sweets addictions, not encourage them Be sure to count the carbs too. I can't recall exactly off the top of my head, but it's like 3 net carbs for a tablespoon.

That is great to know that cocoa is a spice, LOL! I am not using it now. I prefer cheeses, vegetables for my carbs so 3 grams seems too much.

Shirleyhon...do you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002, DANDR for short? (I think I may have asked you this already!)

A lot of the questions you're asking are explained quite clearly in the chapter on Induction. If you don't have the book please get one and give it a good read. It's best to learn right from the source and do things the right way from day 1.

I don't know about you but I want this weight off ASAP and the best way I know of doing that is to be as educated as I can be about how to do this right.
