  • How many eggs?

I have just started Atkins and I'm on day 3. It hasn't been too bad apart from feeling really nauseous and dizzy on the 1st day and a splitting headache on the 2nd day. I'm feeling ok today except that I weighed myself this morning and I haven't lost any weight yet. But it's still early days I guess.

Anyway, I was wondering how many eggs do you consume a week? I tend to have 1-2 a day and I'm just wondering if there is a limit to how many eggs one can have a week due to high cholesterol, etc.
    Thanks for your response.

    Re: How many eggs?

    Welcome to Adbb Pamela,
First get rid of the scale. Dr. A says to weigh at the end of 14 days. Weighing before that will just make you nuts. My first 3 days of induction I put on 2 lbs. Someone here told me to put up the scale and I did. At the end I lost those 2 plus 10 more.
Eggs have .6 carbs a piece most of us count them as 1 each. As long as you remember that there is no reason not to eat 1 or 2 a day. I do.
A great help is to get a free account at www.fitday.com it will help you keep track.

What Lauren said...don't weigh every day. I still have to break that habit but I only count one weigh in a week. Usually whatever I weigh on Monday is what I go by. Dr. A says you can have up to 5 eggs a day. Just keep track of the carbs. You'll start to feel better in a few days, I'm sure. Happy low-carbing!

        Re: How many eggs?

We used to have a poll here that had people eating 15-30 eggs on average per week. I don't eat eggs nearly that many (don't like 'em by themselves), but there should be nothing wrong with eating a 4 or more eggs a day. As for high cholesterol, the good doc says most of that build up is due to increased sugar and out of whack blood glucose and heredity rather than the cholesterol in our food. My cholesterol (total and bad) dropped through the roof on this diet despite eating all the cholesterol high foods. Keep it up thorugh the Induction flue -- it's the worst part IMHO, but it shows you the Diet is working. Your body is changing to burning fat rather than carbs for energy. Once it is gone, you know your body is fat burning machine.

          Re: How many eggs?

There is really no laid-down limit on eggs as Kent said, except as Laurenfra said, the carbs of the eggs you eat need to be counted so cannot literally be unlimited!!

Also over half the carbs we eat ought to be made of veggies, so that would naturally limit you.

Personally I would get sick of eggs cooked the same way always, so vary how you prepare them if you decide to eat a lot!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

            Re: How many eggs?

I had 4 scrambled eggs with cream and cheese for breakfast and a bit of sausage.

I really don't see it as a problem. Maybe I need to reread my DANDR, but I believe if you're on induction or just off you don't need to count eggs.

I don't see anyone eating unlimited eggs - just would not happen.

In yesterday's menu I had 9 eggs in total - six at dinner (I couldn't eat anymore) and that's a big bastard like me. Geese if you wanna count the carbs that's 9 x 0.6 = 5.4 grams of carbs. This is not a problem for anyone!
