  • gum????

    Ok I just ate lunch and I have a bad taste in my mouth even after I brushed my teeth. Any ideas? Water is not helping either

    Congrats the taste can be ketosis. congrats. some folk call it metalic tasting. if it is from your ketosis you will adapt to it and not notice it after a while.

    If you are going to chew sugar free gum make sure you count the carbs and the sweetner servings in your 3 a day limit. We had a memeber who had been to Dr Atkins clinic cause he was stalled abck when Dr Atkins was alive and it turned out to be all the gum he was chewing.

      Chewing parsley is supposed to help combat the breath. Or you could always carry a travel toothbrush and toothpaste around with you.

      I personally have not chewed on gum, even the sugar free variety as I don't want to get the taste for sweet stuff again. (but that is just my opinion).

        I chewed gum from the beginning and I still do. Trident sugarless has 1 gram of carb .. in my opinion, nobody got fat chewing it.

          I was just concerned about getting the taste for "sweet" again, thats the reason I havent done it.

            I have been carrying a travel size bottle of Scope mouthwash in my purse. Gargle and spit ! But the fresh taste only lasts 45 mins. or so. . . . But it's enough not to gross people out when I talk to them !!

              In authors of the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet don't allow chewing gum on their low carb diet because they say the act of chewing can lead to a cephalic phase insulin response.

              But if you do choose to chew, be sure to count the gum into your daily sweetener allotment.

              In addition to the parsley Rich recommended, herbal teas like peppermint can be drunk as well. But both the peppermint teas and chewing parsley work on the basis of the chlorophyll in the plant material. So make sure you eat veggies with your meals as they are the primary source of chlorophyll and fiber on Atkins.

                I was going to post about this same topic! I ate a piece of string cheese for a snack and my breath was RANK I mean, it was so bad I could smell it myself (and my breath doesn't normally stink like that)! This happened to me the last time I was on Atkins. LOL I have to say, the breath issue is one of the few downsides to this WOE (at least during induction while in Ketosis). I've been dealing with it by just chewing a piece of gum when I'm particularly ripe, until I can get home and deal with it.
