  • No sugar Bread and Butter pickels??

    Help!!! I posted my todays menu on the "review my menu" board and my snack of 6 bread and butter pickles came up questionable. They are labled "no sugar added" and made with Splenda. They have <1g total carb. Does anyone know if they are acceptable?? They really help with the sweet cravings and I included them in my 1 cup of other vegies.

    To be honest if it's less than 1 grams of carbs I wouldn't stress about it,

    but strictly speaking for induction that's not on the list.

    But I wouldn't stress about it.

      I think the people on the review my menu forum are quite knowledgable... I agree with Dave that you shouldn't stress about it, though. But I believe that cutting out sweet stuff, even sweetener, makes it easier to curb sweet cravings during induction, because sweet is an acquired taste and not realyl good for us (except of course in - moderate amounts of - fruit in later phases of this WOL).

        I agree on cutting out the sweeteners if you are on induction but not being there myself I use them on occasion and chop them up in my chicken salad to give it a little tang. I dont consider them to be in my veggie count, just as a condiment. I dont use very much when I do have some.

          Pickles are fine if they dont have sugar in them - they are only vegetables that have been preserved with vinegar - but I would count them in my vegetables count. I dont know how big each one is so see how many make a cup full and work it out accordingly.

          You will need to account for the splenda as one carb 'per serving' depending on the info on the pack.

            Thanks! Im still getting confused on the "counting" part. I am great at sticking only to the foods on the induction list but I havent counted anything yet!

              Things we need to count on induction are artificial sweetener servings as you are allowed three per day of the acceptable sweeteners, Splenda being one of them. We need to measure our veggies, cheese and special category foods such as olives. You are right though, we don't have to count calories or even carbs per se on induction if you're following the rules of induction. Many of us like to use fitday.com to keep track of what we're eating and the fat/protein/carb levels of the foods we're eating to see if we're on track with getting 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. I think it's great that you're reading labels and questioning what you're eating. Personally, I think the pickles are fine as long as you count the sweetener towards your daily allotment and the cucumber in your veggie count. Keep an eye on sweet stuff...does it cause cravings? Many of us just can't feed the sweet beast!

                Actually, I have always craved sweets right after a meal and still did up until the start of yesterday, day 4. Now I don't seem to crave them anymore!! Yeah!! But everynight my family sits down and has a bowl of icecream as an evening treat (which is why Im in the place I am now!) so while they are eating their sweets, I'm having mine! Of course it's not taking the place of the icecream but it sure helps with the will power!

                    Big question for you if since your ketosis has kicked in and your blood sugar is stable why are you eating sweet tasting stuff as a treat?

                    I know the pickles you wrote about. did you tell the folk inyour initial post they were Splenda sweetened? ifnot that is why you are gettingthe flcak over them. not every region nor every country carries that Brand.

                      I dont think that I am craving sweets, I only get this craving when my family is having their evening snack of icecream and I start to think about sweets. I assume its a mental thing, not a craving. I will conquer it though... Im determained! But for now the pickles are helping!!

                        This is a good time for you to learn how to be a successful long term loser. We don't eat just cause others are eating even if we like what they are having. Feed your body only when it is hungry and you will be the one out of ten losers who keep it off for good.
