  • I'm a newbie.....kinda.....

    Hello All !!

My name is Nikki and I am new to this forum but not new to Atkins. I did the Atkins WOL about 5/6 years ago and lost 70 pounds. My max weight was 240 so I had gotten down to about 165/170!! It took me about 8 months. I was working out 6 days a week and loving my new body!! I was newly divorced and getting all kinds of attention I hadn't gotten in YEARS!! ( I got married at age 18 and was married for 8 years.) Anyway....after being in the dating scene for a time, I met someone and ohhhhh yeah.....he became more important than my somewhat new WOL. I tried to stick with it and ultimately failed. I am now married to him and have since gained MOST of my weight beck. I believe I am at 205 right now. I am the type of person who LIVES BY THE SCALE and when I see it get around the 180 mark, I start to FREAK OUT! I have just let myself go and I HATE IT I want to get back to where I was before and stay there. I KNOW what it takes I just need some additional (help!) to stay motivated. You see....my husband was verrrrrrrrry skinny when we met ( he was 6'3'' and 165 ) and now - thanks to my good ole southern cookin'...he's around 190. He looks GREAT with the additional weight- but I dont !! I have GOT to do something. He's VERY supportive of my diet but his eating habits are completely opposite of Atkins. He's in the military and VERY active and NEEDS the carbs- LOTS of carbs. He has a very active metabolism and eating carbs doesn't cause him to gain the weight like it dos me. ( WHY!!!!!??? *Grrrrrr @Men!! LOL!)

So anyway.....I'm back to trying this Atkins WOL again! I'm excited and nervous/scared. I know the hardest part of this is going to be getting through Induction. I am on my 3rd today and holding strong though. I DO have a mini goal in mind that MIGHT be a little tough. As I said ...I am at 205 right now and I have a family trip coming up the end of the month. I am hoping to be at LEAST to 180 before the trip. I KNOW this is going to be hard and I think I might need to start exercizing to help the weight come off faster. What do you all think? Do you agree? What kind of exercizes would you recommend for induction (and throughout)?

Thanks so much for listening! I promise I can be a good listener too! I feel that finding this forum and all of you is a BLESSING! PLEASE help keep me motivated!! Good luck to all of you as well!!

    Nikki XOXOXOXOX

If you're not exercising...you're not doing Atkins. Welcome Nikki.

A combination of weight training (weight lifting) and cardio would be the ultimate workout.

Hi, Nikki. Congratulations on making the decision to do something. Glad your guy is supporting you as well. Exercise will definitely help you meet your goal by the end of the month. You can do it!

Hi Nikki, and welcome to the forum!

Yes, get on the exercise wagon!!! I'm proof that it gets you kick started. I have just finished my 6th day of Induction and am down a whopping 10 lbs!! I don't think I'd be there if it weren't for my treadmill workouts. Look in the Exercise Challenge forum and try to find something that you like and can do. I don't think you'd be sorry for it. And, from what I've read from others who have been here for a long time, I also think it might help with the loose skin issue when you do lose all the weight you want. You can start slow and work your way into something more.

          You can do it!!!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

            Hi Nikki
I'm new to Atkins, today is only day 5 for me!! When I decided to do Atkins I was dreading meal planning because I have a husband and kids who do not need to diet so I was thinking--great, now I have to make two seperate meals!! But then I found this great Atkins recipe site and I have used dinner recipes from there for the last 4 nights, I make a salad the Atkins induction way, do two different vegies, one the Atkins way and the other "family friendly" and make a starch for them too. Let me tell you, last night the minute my family walked in the door they were asking what I was going to make for dinner that night!! They are loving the Atkins menues!! And it's not that much more work just making an extra starch and vegie for them! If you don't already have this recipe site bookmarked, here it is. Just make sure you check ingredients to be sure it fits in the induction rules! Happy eating!!

Welcome Nikki! I agree with the comments above, add the exercise...it will help.

25 pounds in 3 weeks or so is pretty aggressive, just keep in mind that Atkins is a way of life, not a quick fix.

Follow the plan and you'll be success!
