  • Realistic Question about Fat & Flab

In my own little world, I could never imagine a slimmer healthier body. I have always been big, thick, Fat, or whatever. It is so hard to imagine this new body I am working so hard for. And I know it is worth it. I am very pleased so far with Induction. But realistically even with exercise, what are the chances of having hanging skin and other problems like that ? Is there a way to avoid it ? I have been walking a mile everyday and doing crunches everynight since I started Induction. It scares me to think that after all of this work, my problems would lie with hanging saggy skin in my mid section, arms and other areas.
    I appreciate any response !

Here is a website you might want to check out:

I too, am concerned about this. I believe the emphasis is on slow and healthy weight loss - eating lot's of fat will help.

There's absolutely no way to know what you're going to be looking at. It's going to depend highly on a lot of things ranging from genetics to havin' babies and what that does to it on top of the weight loss to what kind of exercise you're doing and how much to how fast you lose the weight.

I can tell you issues I've had.

I dropped well over 90lbs of fat off my body (added lotsa muscle too! ). I've had 3 babies and I was HUGE with all three of them as well as nursed two of them. LOL Gained 40, lost 40, gained 110lbs, lost a total of 82lbs now.

Hanging skin on my lower belly, yep.
Went from a 44 full D to a 38B-long, if you know what I mean. *sigh*

My arms, legs, back, butt all toned back up wonderfully .....but no such luck on the above mentioned two.

        Thank You Guys.
(Dave) I am checking the site out. I appreciate your input. I am so worried about this.
(Brook) I truly understand all of the factors that contribute. After 2 babies and gaining mucho weight, I know exactly what you mean. I just wanted to set myself up for realistic possibilities. Or maybe I watch to much Oprah & Dr. Phil !

Maybe it wont be so bad, Only time will tell.
Thank You very much for your advice !
        It is much appreciated.

You need to really ask yourself this question if you get there healthy and smaller and have the loose skin Are you really going to set your goal to fill it back up and be unhealthy? I have lose skin and it reminds me of how easy it would be to become that 300+ pounder again I have no desire to get it off as long as it doesn't present a health hazzard. I worked out and lifted weights and used my treadmill and got to 14.9% body fat but I still had lose skin. Will it tighten back up I will just have to live longer and see.

Don't worry about the cosmetics at the end of your journey worry about getting yourself healthier.

Re: Realistic Question about Fat & Flab

I share LC Dave's opinion on this--slow weight loss. When I began Atkins I lost about 45 pounds in 5 months (wooHooo!). I lost maybe about 1 dress size. Then I hit a period of time where I didn't lose pounds but I lost inches---rapidly. It was during that time I noticed my skin was saggy and wrinkly looking. By wrinkly, I mean I could pinch the skin on the back of my hand and pull up an inch of loose skin, and when I let it go, it returned slowly.

So, I purposefully slowed down my weight loss. Why? Because my body has spent alot of time being fat and it adapted to it: my heart was used to pumping blood to all parts of a 245 pound body, my joints were used to carrying the weight of a 245 pound body, my lungs were used to breathing for a 245 pound body. In 5 months, my body lost 18% of its "normal" weight. And it had to adjust to being smaller. That period where I was losing no pounds, but shed the inches away convinced me my bod was busy getting used to its new size and needed time to get used to it.

Now I lose weight slowly, and I noticed my skin isn't as saggy as it was during that period where I quickly lost the inches. The other thing too is that my skin isn't wrinkly: when I pinch the skin on the back of my hand, I can pull up about a half inch and when I let go, it springs back in place.

So for me, losing slowly has been blessing, not a curse.
