  • Question about COFFEE ..and 1 more....

I was wondering about coffee. I LOVE a cup of coffee in the morning but I HATE black coffee. I remember when I was on Atkins before , I was using whipping cream instead of coffee mate and it tasted great! Is this 'legal' ?

I have the DANDR 1997 version? It's a small yellow paperback with blue, purple and pink print. Not sure if this is the one everyone seems to be referring to. I keep seeing things in threads about 'rungs'. What in the world is THIS about ???? ( A nut rung? )

    Confused,

    Nikki~XOXOXOXOX

Heavy cream, whipping cream is fine. Whipping cream has stabalizers in it but if thats all you can fine, that okay.
Remember it should be decaf coffee,
No we use his newer book, Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. There were some changes between the two that are pretty significant so if you can find it, its worth the money.

You should get the 2002 edition fo DANDR - and read the stickie sin the owl forum (see. carbohydrate ladder).

The rungs are steps on the carbohydrate ladder. In OWL you get to add more carbs subsequently, and in the 2002 ed. of DANDR it is recommended to add these carbs in food groups aka rungs in a given order.

Coffee is legal during induction if it is decaf (I suppose you are referring to induction?). If you don't go crazy on the cream a little cream in your coffee is legal, too.

ADBB goes by the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short.) It was the most recent version that the good doctor wrote himself before his passing. The "rungs" are part of Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL for short) and are the way to gradually add various things back to your diet.

Heavy cream is allowed on Atkins, but in small amounts. I believe it's 2 tablespoons per day, but I could be wrong. Someone...please correct me!!! Just be aware that heavy cream can stall some people, so it should be used with caution...

I have a question about wine. I am on my 5th day and doing pretty good, however, I have been invited to a friends bday party at a wine tasting. Would I have to start all over if I had a little wine?

Mwalsh, if you stray off the induction list (by drinking alcohol) it will mean you have not done a 'clean' induction and so your 14 day weightloss will not be the best it could have been.
In DANDR there is a table that helps you calculate your likely CCLL (the amount of carbs you can eat and still lose weight) using your 14-days amount lost on a strict induction fortnight, so this would not be possible.

Apart from that when we drink alcohol our bodies use that as fuel in preference to the fats/protein/carbs we are eating and store those in our bodies (as fat!!). So it would mean a period of no weightloss till things levelled off again.

So is it worth stopping your weightloss for a day or more plus not being able to make an educated guess at your likely CCLL? Only you can say that.

Personally I have had no alcohol since I started Atkineering (except maybe 2 or 3 meal wheres wine has been used in a dish by someone else once I reached the alcohol rung of OWL) in 30 months.
I dont know about you but particularly when I started I wanted to lose weight to the max!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
