  • A Bratwurst question....

Man, I love to grill those things and the package said they have less than 1 carb per link. I am paranoid of eating anything processed but 1 carb is 1 carb, it should be OK, righ?

it will depend on what is the source ofd that carb and if you are sensitive to it. We have goalies who ate them from day one so see if you can habdle them.

Thanks for the feedback. This is where I am most confused about this way of eating. I understand how aspertame or caffeine can mess with your body chemistry & insulin production but if a Bratwurst is pretty much just meat and the package says 1 carb per link then I don't understand how eating them could possibly slow down ketosis.......am I missing something obvious?

Because often sausage contain fillers, and fillers can be carbs like flour or grains or stuff like that. What do the ingredients tell you is inside the sausage, that is more important than the amount of carbs. If sugar is listed as the last ingredient, then your pretty safe, but if its way up there, you might want to check another brand. Same thing for hotdogs.

not all carbs are equal. the same amount of carbs of potatoes and carrots will have a different effect on your blood sugar level. The measure of that effect is called the glycemic Index or GI That is why Dr Atkins gave us the list of low glycemic veggies for induction and then according to the GI and nutritional values for groups of foods decided what order to return foods to our way of eating, WOE, in OWL phase.

So read your label most sauage type foods that have casings have carbs in that too. Just check your brand a 1 carb one should be fine some in our store have 4 grams per braut.

I tell ya, I've been eating brats and sausage since day 1. Just check the label. I wont buy anything thats more then 1-2 carbs per link. Of course, I can eat like 4 or 5 of them for dinner. If you have a Sam's club or Costco near ya, you can buy the bulk ones pretty cheap and with only 1 carb per link!

I've lost 66 pounds in 6 months and I eat brats, Italian and polish sausage multiple times a week. Hasnt hurt one bit!
