  • Mayo on salad??

Does anyone else put mayo on a basic salad? I posted a thread earlier about a 7 layer salad and it was my first experience with mayo on a salad. It was SOOOO good but I dont know if it is something I can use on a 'regular' salad. I was thinking about making a salad with iceberg lettuce, celery, cheese bacon and mayo. What do you think??

Sounds good to me. In fact it sounds lovely.

Be careful which mayo you use though, as they all vary in carbs. Always go for the "full fat" version, but be sure to check the labels.

That sounds good Nikki, My salad dressing of choice is a good red wine vinegar, a mashed garlic, a good Extra Virgin Oil Oil and a pack of splenda. Its delicious.
I love Mayo on tuna and egg salad. Also, I make lettuce wraps with them

My favourite is iceberg lettuce shredded, tomatoes (slices) on top, mayo on top of that and then a slice of good cheddar cheese. (All of this can be places on top of a hamburger, just put the cheese on the bottom then. And for extra YUM YUM wrap the hamburger in bacon)

Just want to encourage you all to pass the iceberg lettuce by in favour of darker leafy greens like romaine, spinach, baby greens, etc.
Nutritionally, iceberg is little more than chewy water. Since we're limited to 3 cups of vegetables a day in Induction you really want to be choosing veggies that have a bigger nutritional punch.
Plus the dark leafy greens are tastier!

Moochiecat.....unfortunately, here in Denmark, Romaine and baby greens are considered specialty items, and therefore they are very very expensive....
I settle for iceberg and then I use lots of frozen spinach.....
That's what I have to do being a poor student! *sigh*

Good for you for using the frozen spinach!! Spinach is a nutritional powerhouse.
That's a shame about the dark leafies being pricey over there....but do your best!
Remember a salad can be a combo of a lot of veggies and you don't have to rely on lettuce as the base, so it probably would be better if you looked into different kinds of salads.
I like a good greek salad, with tomato, feta, peppers, cucumber, and I add zucchini and celery in there as well. Marinating mushrooms in Italian dressing is good too....in fact, if you blanch broccoli and cauliflower and throw those in with the mushrooms it makes a great salad.

Again...do your best, and think nutritionally.

Yum....I love broccoli.....and I'm so lucky that broccoli, cauliflower and other cabbage types are cheap here. YAY!
Maybe I should include more broccoli in my salads.....thanks! And by the way, you look really great....
