It seems like I am taking in way more calories than the "recommended" daily amount for loosing weight. If I cut down my calories would I loose pounds quicker?? Or should I totaly ignore the calories and just be concerned about my fat/carb/protein ratios??

Re: Should Calories count??
Dr. Atkins said we don't have to keep track of our calories, but they still do matter. Dr. A. hoped that through the natural appetite suppression characteristic of ketosis, we would self-regulate our food/calorie consumption because we 1. would only eat when we were hungry or when we needed to eat, and 2. we would only eat that amount that satisfies our hunger--which would hopefully mean we wouldn't stuff ourselves full like a Thanksgiving turkey.Originally posted by penniedoIt seems like I am taking in way more calories than the "recommended" daily amount for loosing weight. So if you take Dr. Atkins' advise, you won't need to obsess over the calorie count because if you'll allow it to, your body will only make you eat the amount of calories it needs to function.
The metabolic advantage of Atkins will allow you to eat a slightly higher calorie diet and still lose weight. However, if you go overboard, the metabolic advantage won't help you at all.~Megs~

Re: Should Calories count??
Pennie...they do count, especially when you don't have that much to lose. You weigh less now and burn fewer calories and need to consume fewer calories to maintain your weight. You may want to log your foods on Fit Day and up your exercise or start weight training (to build calorie-burning muscle).
Congrats on the 3lbs BTW.

Re: Should Calories count??
during the early days of induction you are to just eat whenever you are hungry from the aacceptable foods lists and stop when you are no longer hungry.
As Megs pointed out once your ketosis kicks in you will get the wonderful appetite supression side effect and not be hungry. Then you can easily practice calorie control theough carb control as Dr Atkins created his plan to be.

Re: Should Calories count??
Me, personally I would not advise you to restrict calories when first starting induction. Do induction the right way, and your appetite will decrease and so forth.Originally posted by penniedoIt seems like I am taking in way more calories than the "recommended" daily amount for loosing weight.
