  • Caved & Regrets - Need help!

Got on the scale this morning and gained back 2 lbs which puts me at a net loss of 3 lbs. for my 1st wk on Atkins. I went to the kitchen to prepare my eggs & was on the fence whether to quit or stay on Atkins.

I had cranky babies and was really hungry and cereal was so much easier than cooking eggs (plus I'm getting so sick of eggs) - I started thinking, I would have lost the same 3 lbs if I had just stopped eating all the cookies, chocolate and snacks I usually do and I don't need to deal w/ this annoying diet.

    So I chose the cereal.

I've been really upset since. I want to un-eat the cereal but I can't. I have to decide whether it's worth going back on Atkins and I think it is. I brought my work out clothes to work (forgot my sneakers though) so maybe if I incorporate exercise, the weight loss will go better.

I would really appreciate any stories, advice or encouragement!! I really want to lose more weight before a trip to Puerto Rico in 10 days. Please help!!!

    Thanks.

You don't say how long you were "off" the diet, but in order for you to gain 1 pound of fat, you need to eat 3500 additional calories. So, your gain is most likely water retention.

As for eggs for breakfast.....Breakfast foods can be anything on the Foods List. It can be leftovers from last night's dinner, it can be pepperoni slices and cheese, it can be soup, it can be roast beef hash with turnip "fries". The favorite breakfast of a former ADBB mod is taco salad!

If you insist on having eggs for breakfast daily, then preparing them different ways can reduce boredom. Quiches, omelettes, scrambled, baked, creammed, etc. are all different ways to prepare eggs. If you look at the sticky called "Induction Recipe Basics" there is a recipe there for "Atkins Revolution Rolls". They are an egg based Induction friendly bread substitute that I often use as a sandwich bread or as a pancake substitute.

Breakfast doesn't have to be eggs.

Re: Caved & Regrets - Need help!

I guess you have to evaluate your weight loss goals. Do you want to drop some pounds quickly or are you really looking at long term overall health? Many of us have tried many diets and have had success only to gain it back again and maybe a little more on top. Atkins has been the only way of eating that has truly been amazing for me. I'm never hungry. The choices of food is amazing. I can eat out in restaurants easily (even on induction). I've never felt better overall in my entire life. Heck, I'm even running and training for triathlons and I've NEVER been athletic in my entire life.
I know you have a lot of stress in your life with twin babies. (I'm a mom of twins myself, although mine are 16 now). It's difficult to make time for yourself. But, you are worth it. Think of all the energy you'll have to run and play with your kids!
In terms of food, one really has to 'think outside the box'. Who says you have to have eggs for breakfast? Maybe cook a little extra chicken or whatever the night before and have that for breakfast. No cooking required! Have some veggies already washed and cut and easy to grab. Give yourself a little time for planning and save yourself a lot of time later. You'll also be able to grab Atkins friendly food instead of cereal.
I know you can do this.

Re: Caved & Regrets - Need help!

I have four children two are older and two are smaller. So, alot of times I find it really hard but I found that if you find a quick breakfast you can prepare at night and just quick warm it up in the morning it's a lot easier and it's healthy. I know it's hard to stay on track but once you see those pounds shedding away and you feel all that great energy in the morning you will see it's all well worth it!!!

Re: Caved & Regrets - Need help!

Thanks so much for the encouragement and some really great ideas! I'm going to get back on the wagon and try some alternative bkfst options - I like the idea of prepping the night before since I wake up starving (which of course weakens the motivation).

Isabeau - as for my goals - I'm really interested in the quick weight loss. I was always thin & fit before having twins (+3 mos. strict bedrest while pregnant). I believe once I get back to my pre-preg. weight or close to it, I will be able to maintain with my old lifestyle which involved a lot of exercise.

I really appreciate all the fantastic support here!! You all are a huge help! I'll keep you posted.

              Thanks again!

Re: Caved & Regrets - Need help!

One easy breakfast is ham or other meat slices rolled up with cheese slices or cream cheese. They dont take a moment to lay out and roll up. I usually have these with a few cherry tomatoes to get some veggies in first thing in the morning.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Caved & Regrets - Need help!

Hey Twins Mom! Glad to see you on the board! I know how you feel about things being "easier" the other way. I'd be lying if I said there wasn't an adjustment period to eating this way, but I believe it *is* worth it. I've lost 10lbs. in 1 week on induction.

You might do well to prepare foods for hectic days? You know, maybe boil eggs for the morning emergencies? Get some really, really good lunch meat and eat that with something in the morning? Boar's Head brand lunchmeat has a delicious Rosemary and Sundried Tomato flavored ham that is great if you just toss it in a skillet for two minutes to heat (and it's great cold). It's a nice variation from tuna salad, chicken salad...blah, blah, blah. I've gone to the gourmet deli meats for variety.

In the recipe forum, someone posted a wild recipe for Cinnamin Cereal made out of Pork Rinds!!! It sounds scary, but lots of people tried the recipe and said it was great. You might try that if you get in a hurry. Of course, there's the mock cream cheese danish which takes like 3 minutes to throw together.

I hope you stick with it!

By the way, where are you going in Puerto Rico? I'm going there in July! Just bought my airline tickets last night. Exciting! I wanna hear all about it!!!
