    I am 9 days into the Induction phase, and I'm no longer having headaches, but I am now starting to have severe diarrhea. I would have expected this symptom in the first week, but not the second. Is this normal and will it go away? I'm drinking at least 64 oz water daily, and probably more like 100 oz of bottled or filtered water, no other beverages. For breakfast, I'm having bacon and scrambled eggs in butter sprinkled with a little cheddar. For lunch, a can of tuna in oil, and maybe a grilled chicken filet as a snack. For dinner, a meat dish like steak or chicken, and a small salad of lettuce alone with blue cheese. I am not coming close to 20 carbs. I am lactose intolerant, but the amount of cheese I'm having is not nearly what it takes to irritate my bowels, so I don't think it's that. Other than that symptom, I feel fine and I'm losing weight. Any ideas?

    To little veggies? You should be eating 3 cups of salad a day or 2 cups salad veggies and 1 cup of veggies from the other vegetables list. And if you are lactose intolerant, Induction really would have been the place to cut out any dairy, because the merabolism is going on a detox and you should avoid things you are allergic to. actually, in induction your body might behave differently and react differently, too.

      I'm lactose intolerant and I take an extra strenght lactaid with any meal I eat dairy with. It works for me!

        I had the big D too. I don't have an explaination except maybe my body was going through detox. I also ate all the approved foods- only from the list and I still had it. I think it may be our bodies reaction to ridding the carbs. Try the psyllium and see if that helps.

          I am having about 2-3 cups of lettuce in my salad. The Lactaid is a thought, or maybe just dropping the cheddar.

            Have you checked your ratio's on Fitday.com?? I would check that before you take out the cheddar, you might need the fat from it.

              I hate to say this because it's embarrassing but I too had this prob my 2nd -3rd week... I was following induction with the exception of an occasional sugar free jello and diet coke... but it went away and now I have the opposite problem! Seems I can't catch a break! lol

              Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

              01/04/10 ~ 229.0
              01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
              (Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)

                I had the big D too after my first day in thr middle of the night. I never hardly eat meat or alot of fats, just a carb junkie, so I think thats why I had it so quickly.

                  You need to get some more fiber into your diet and the best way of doing that is to cut back on the lettuce and incorporate other vegetables.
                  The vegetable list does not stop with lettuce....have a look at it and branch out with a variety of veggies. Spreading them out through the day is best as well, so your body can digest everything better.
                  Instead of the conventional salad, cut up some veggies and have them with some dip at meals or snack time. They offer a wide variety of fiber and nutrients that your body needs and that plain lettuce can't give you (Iceberg in particular is little more than chewy water, so bring on some peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, tomatos, pumpkin..etc!! and if you must have lettuce have a dark leafy, like romaine or spinach)

                  Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short)?
                  If not, please do yourself a favour and get a copy to read and have on hand for easy reference.
                  If you do have it, go over the chapter on Induction again and focus on the importance of veggies in Atkins.

                    Maybe this happens because your body is adjusting to eating a healthier diet... If followed right this is a more natural "whole foods" way of eating...? Getting more nutrients maybe?

                      I had/have the EXACT same problem - it's lack of fiber. My body says it wants more than what I can pack in on my 20g allowable carbs with food so I take a fiber supplement every other day. Bulks things up and no more problem....

                        That's weird, I would have thought that a lack of fiber would cause the opposite... weird how our bodies work!

                          I think this is the problem. I am eating romaine lettuce, not iceberg. I don't think I can eat enough fiber from veggies to stop the diarrhea and stay under 20 carbs. Do you have a suggestion for fiber supplement?

                            I use Psyllium Husk Fiber in a caplet. I take 2 with each meal with an 8oz glass of water. They have been working fine.

                              I am on my 9th or 10th day of induction, which I have followed perfectly. And I am still having this problem too. It comes out of nowhere ! Usually after I eat salad and green things. I figured it would stop eventually. And I also thought it may have contributed to such a big weight loss in week # 1 !!! lol
