soo confuse!! help please

  • soo confuse!! help please

    okay so its been my 5th day on atkins and so far i've only lost 1 or 2lbs and i dont know wut im doin wrong .. i dont eat any bread, rice, pasta or anything that has carb. except for vegetables. ((those salad that you can buy in store)). anywayz all i really have been eating is meat. i dont set an amount of how much meat should i eat, i just really eat meat like i dont limit myself.. but now im really confuse if i should limit of how much meat should i eat because maybe me eating meat, eggs and other food with no limit is just makin me gain weight or not lose any??? if there is a limitation of how much food ((meat and food w/o carb)) is required for this diet. please let me know, i've been checking the other forums about the 14th day introduction but im still confused. it never really state anything about how much meat, egg, or other food that has carb i should eat.. also i go to gym and do elyptical for a mile.. but still theres no good.. i know this maybe bad but during school time i dont eat anything from the morning (6 am) till the end of the school time (3 pm) because i dont know wut kind of food i can eat in my school, sometimes i even stay in school till 5 coz i stay for gym.. anywayz in school they have salad but doesnt salald also have carbs? i mean i eat my salad without any dressing so just i dont have to worry that much but i just found out that salad also have carb.. so is not eating for 9-11 hrs also holding me back from losing weight? if so wut choice of food can i eat when im in school?? seeing that im not losing any weight is really discouraging me and making me think about just quitting but i really dont want to quit so i need some advice.. please tell me this is just normal, or please tell me of how i can make my diet work moree than it is right now... thnxx

    please help me not to quit this diet. i've done almost 20 diff. diet and even took some pills just to lose weight but i just really haven't been too serious i guess. but im turning 16 this year and i really would like to look great and prove to people who put me down that i can do it, i can lose weight and look amazing... i need some confidence and support.. thanks

    Others will tell you to get the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 version. It tells you everything you need to know about what you can eat and how much to eat. Also, reading through the threads here you'll find tons of information. Read the stickied threads first.

    9-11 hours without food is a long time. When I didn't feel well the other day, I didn't eat very much and when I started eating as recommended yesterday, it had a huge effect on me. If the last time you ate was over 5-6 hours ago, it's time to eat again.

    1 or 2 pounds is pretty good for 5 days. The best advice I can give for induction is to stay away from the scale for the full 14 days. Then when you jump on, you are going to be amazed at how much you've lost.

    I just noticed your age. You may wish to check with your doctor being starting any diet or new way of eating.

      -Definitely eat breakfast. Going without food for that long will probably slow down weight loss, but will also make you less able to concentrate on school and make you more likely to eat way more than your body needs later in the day.

      -A lot of veggies are ok to eat and have minimal carbs...there's a post at the top of this forum that lists which foods are ok. I'd go for the salad, or pack something from home for lunch if you have time in the morning.

        Babi - First off, you really should get the book and read it all the way through. Reading what Dr. Atkins wrote about his diet will really open up your eyes and answer a lot of your initial questions. You shouldn't go more than 4 hours without a snack of something low/no carb. Eating breakfast and regularly will help your body burn fat.

        1-2 pounds a week is fantastic (esp. if you try any other diet). You may have been expecting more, but this is a good start, you just need to be patient

        Read the stickies (esp. in the 14-day Induction page) that should help answer some of your questions.

        Drink you water, exercise, read the book, read the stickies and keep posting.

        You need to be eating a ratio of Fat 65% proten 30% and carbs 5%. (Someone correct me if the ratio is off)

        Things you can take to school (hardboiled eggs, cheese, pepperoni (or other sandwhich meats like turkey), veggies with dip, canned chicken with mayo)

        If you can bring a lunch bag or cooler with an ice pack you have a lot of options...

          Ok...im not an expert but I can give you my two sense!

          About the meat...you dont wanna eat 3 cows in one sitting. Just like any way to lose weight....eat enough to satisfy you, dont stuff yourself. There isnt a written "limit" on how much, just be wise and dont over-do it.

          I would recommend *HIGHLY* to read the book, and most...if not all of your questions are answered in there.

          You have to eat every 4 hours or so! Not big huge meals, but just a snack (cheesesticks, pepperoni slices, something easy to carry around with you at school). You cant starve yourself all day, go home and eat a salad with no dressing (?) and expect to lose weight. On this diet you need fat! You can have dressing on your salad just watch that it doesnt have over 2-3 carbs per serving. I believe Hidden Valley ranch is even ok. The regular, not fat free. Check the labels. The carbs in the salad are the good carbs that you need, dont let those freak you out.

          Your trying to eliminate the bad, processed carbs. Not ALL of them.

          If your school has a salad bar cafeteria (like alot of them do now days) then eat a salad to be safe, then when you go home, have a meat meal. Dont eat salad's all day everyday, as you are only aloud to have 2-3 servings of the approved veggies each day. If your school doesnt, then pack a lunch! You obviously like lettuce so you can bring tuna roll-ups (tuna w\ mayo on a leaf of lettuce rolled up with cheese?) or even some kind of quiche that you like. Just take a slice of that for school! You have to be prepared the night before. You cant just wake up in the morning and want to pull something out of the cupboard, because there arent many atkins-friendly things that are in cupboards! Make something the night before, be creative! Then put some in a container and bring it with you. If you go through the recipe forums, you'll see that the possibilities are endless!

          And make sure you are getting in all of your water! WATER! WATER!!!

          Once again, it would be best if you went to walmart, or wherever and bought the book. Its not expensive at all, i think mine was $4.95 or something. You can even get them online @ Ebay. It will help you BIG TIME!

          Keep with it! 1-2lbs in 5 days is great! Dont weigh yourself all the time either, because usually when starting this "diet" you gain a few pounds before you lose, then it fluctuates all the time! Try to go two weeks without checking the scale, and see how far you've come. You'll be suprised. Dont expect to lose 30lbs in two weeks because it doesnt happen like that. Your body needs to get used to this way of eating.

          Great job on the exercise though! Keep at it, eat every couple hours and drink your water, you'll be good to go!!!

            Personally, I have been on induction for 9 days, and haven't lost a pound. I KNOW that eventually I WILL lose weight..but I have to be patient. This is a new way of eating <WOE> and it may take many many months before I see desired results. That's okay though, because I know if I continued to eat the way that I was, the only results I would see is the scale going UP! With that said, I AM slimmer..even though the scale hasn't changed. I bought a pair of pants for a christmas party last month, and I can pull those same pair of pants up without unzipping them! Now, they are the stretch type jeans, so they do give some ...but I couldn't pull them up without unzipping them 3 weeks ago. You are beginning a new way of life..this isn't a quick fix fad diet. Be patient, and good things will come. It didn't take you two weeks to put on all the weight you have, and it won't take you two weeks to get it off either. GL, and you can do it! BTW: Please please make sure you drink enough water. You are so young, and if you don't make sure you get enough, you will hurt your kidneys.

              hi and welcome. I read your siggy and I see you are almost 16 years old and have been on a number of diets. As a teenager you are still growing and developing your body. So your nutritional needs are a bit different than us, older folks.

              Have you been to a doctor for a full physical exam? A full physical is what Dr. atkins recommended we all get before beginning his diet. I especially urge you to have one done and to discuss weight loss with your doctor and the number of diets you have attempted to lose weight. Obesity and over-weight can be due to a number of things other than high caloric input/low calorie output. Since you say you have been on 20 different diets and have even taken weight loss pills without success, you really need to make sure your weight problem isn't due to a medical problem and only a visit to the doctor will be able to rule that out.

                I just wanted to add my support to what Not2late just told you. Go talk to your doctor and make sure everything is as it should be.

                The other thing you need to understand is that the three keys to success on any diet are education, committment, and patience.
                Learn as much about what you intend to do as you can (read the book!), talk to your doctor and your parents about how you are serious in this and you need their support and guidance...then be patient with yourself...give your body and yourself time to adjust to all the newness of things, and give it time to lose weight.
