  • got milk?

Question of the day: I realize milk is not on the Induction permitted foods list, but just how bad is it in the off chance that I may have slipped up and had a Chai which had milk in it? I should note that I have not given up caffeine, but am trying to stick to the Induction rules otherwise.

My progress: I think this is day 10 for me but w/ a few slip-ups (the worst being a bowl of cereal in a moment of weakness). I have been holding steady at a weight loss of 5 lbs. I have only worked out once but will go to the gym again today.

Thanks to this board and all of the fantastic support, knowledge and advice - I'm hanging on!

Regular full-fat milk has about 10-14 carbs per 8 ounces. The weight loss problem arises with the lactose (the sugar found in milk) because some people can be very senstitive to it without even realizing it. My own experience with wheat was surprizing because pre-Atkins I ate whole wheat and wheat products without any "problems", but I found out that wheat does cause problems with me.

Just keep this in mind too, little things add up...

Caffeine is not recommended by Atkins. But this is no because it effects weight loss directly. Caffeine can actually be help to weight loss by boosting your meatoblism. The problem with caffeine is that it causes urges to eat sugar products.

And I agree with Not2Late the little things add up and I know many members here that have been affected differently just by the little bits of cream or milk they use for there coffee.

It was a slip up, move on and just be more careful the next time. Just keep in mind that if you don't cheat, you'll get better control over your cravings. Last night, DH got some food from Backyard Burger. He had a burger and fries, I had a bunless burger and a salad. I LOVE those fries, but was surprised when I wasn't tempted to steal one of his! lol Put the spoon down and back away from the cereal.

It's amazing how much exercise can help! Not only with weight/inches lost, but with motivation. I personally WANT to eat better when I exercise so it's not as much of a struggle compared to when I don't.

        Much success...

Even aside from the caffeine, you should be careful with the chai, unless you make it yourself. A lot of places use a premade syrup, which is loaded with sugar.
