  • No loss in the 2nd week?

    hi

i'm new to the bb's but not new to atkins. i did atkins about 5 years ago and was plugging along beautifully (lost 43 lbs) when i got pg with my last baby. i actually did great thru my pg (took a lesson from my previous pg) but have managed to put most of it back on over the last 3 years.

i'm on day 12 of induction. i feel good, but i haven't lost anything in the last 5 days. i lost 8.5 lbs in the first week. i'm spilling moderate to large amounts of ketones, and am drinking 64oz+ of water, and following atkins to a T. i even bought the 2002 version of DANDR. i guess it was revised the year i gave birth to my ds.

i vaguely remember getting stuck at week 3 on my last go round, but i DID lose inches. but is it normal to not show a loss during week 2? i haven't re-measured myself since day 1, b/c i figured how many inches can you possibly lose in 12 days?

anyone else experience this? need some words of encouragement!

    TIA

    Completely normal

Remember weight loss is measured by the loss of pounds OR by the loss of inches. In fact, Dr. Atkins wrote that the loss of inches was more representative of fat loss because losing inches correlated with the fat emptying from your cells.

i knew this was true as i experienced the first time, but i guess sometimes you need that little bit of encouragement to keep your mindset.

      thank you!

I bet you will be surprised when you do measure!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Woo hoo!! 8.5 lbs in the first week! Way to go. Your body is all confused right now and trying to figure out what the heck is going on. lol Don't worry. It will figure it all out and you'll start losing again. Sometimes your body will hold onto water for a while too b/c it figures something ought to be taking up space in those empty fat cells. In the meantime, I bet you're losing inches. You're doing great!

a good post! i too was starting to be a little concerned! i've been so good this time around (3rd time trying) i haven't cheated at all, no franken foods, no atkins hot cereal (made of flax and stuff but commercial) i was starting to get that sinking feeling inside like 'here we go again'. But i'll stay on course and see what happens....

Re: No loss in the 2nd week?

This is actually my second time around. Five years ago I lost 78 pounds on Adtkins over about a year and a half. I made the mistake of comforting myself with food again when anxiety and stress ruled my life. It took me this long to get my head on straight.

I do remember going through stages as long as 3 weeks trying to lose pounds and figure out what i was doing wrong and I could lose. I even went back on induction in order to jumpstart me back into losing weight. Eventually, my weight came off. I was resistant to getting into ketosis and nothing in the book worked for me.

Patience is what will work in the end. If you stick with it, it'll work.

                Good luck!

Thank GOD I'm not alone! (I love this board). I *just* posted this exact same topic in the Century Club Forum. I am in my second week and I'm not really down, either. Though, there are things I need to work harder on, but at least I know that I'm not alone.

Re: No loss in the 2nd week?

ya know the funny thing is....my keto sticks turned the morning of day 3. i've already lost almost 10% of my goal, and i guess that makes my metabolic resistance low. THAT surprises me, because i would've expected the opposite.

thinking back to my first go at atkins....i destinctly remember not getting on the scale for a few weeks. so the truth is, i really couldn't say whether or not i lost in the second week. i just remember weighing myself after induction and being happy with my loss. guess that's why it's recommended that you wait to get on the scale. but i definitely hit a little stall at 3 weeks. i did however continue to lose inches.

Re: No loss in the 2nd week?

Not losing any weight can be discouraging, but I was thinking yesterday... Even though most of us started this BECAUSE we want to lose weight, we are (or should be) thinking of this as a WOL. If we can truly think of it that way and start thinking of weight loss as an added bonus to this WOE instead of the reason we are doing it, maybe it would be easier to get through those times when we don't lose. Does that make sense? I'm working on that. We all want to snap our fingers and look like we want to, but that's not going to happen. So if we accept that and just eat and exercise properly for LIFE, then the loss will come when it's ready.

There's certainly much wisdom in what you said. Part of the issue, at least for me, is to catch myself when there's a problem before I get too far off track. Because all of this is fairly new for many of us, it seems somewhat prudent that we give a little extra scrutiny to what we are doing right, as well as what we *might* be doing wrong and make the necessary adjustments.

Bad habits are harder to break the longer you've been doing them, so at least for me personally, when I saw I wasn't losing weight this week, it raised a red flag for me that I might be doing something wrong. Plus, induction is where you're supposed to really burn through pounds a little quicker, so it just seems odd to stall during this period. At least by talking about it here, we know for sure what is normal and what isn't, rather than sitting at home worrying by ourselves.

Re: No loss in the 2nd week?

Oh I totally agree Wayless! Monday will be my 2 weeks. I love 7 pounds the first week and nothing this week. It makes me wonder too if I've done something wrong. Then I also think.. well, I lost 7 in the first week so that 4 and 3.. not bad. lol It's such a tough journey sometimes. My brain gets boggled easily!

I obsess with this WOE. It's 2am and here I am. lol I love all the advice and support here and it's really nice to know that we have somewhere to go, especially when, like me, you don't know anyone else personally that does Atkins. If it weren't for this place (and a couple others) I doubt I'd be able to stick with it. I do think that you have to be on top of things and pay attention to what's going on with your body. All I meant was that.. in the long run.. if I can wrap my mind around this being a WOL instead of JUST worrying about the weight loss, that I think I'll be much more successful. ymmv.
