  • Question about the scale & daily fluctuation

I don't know why, but I let curiosity get the best of me and jump on the scale more often than I should. The weight that I say I am comes from weighing myself in the morning after using the bathroom and before getting dressed. Every few days, I get on that scale more than once. I noticed that it fluctuates anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds during the day. I'm following this WOL to the letter and I'm wondering why the big difference. Can anyone explain to me why that is? Or is there a post about this that I missed?

Re: Question about the scale & daily fluctuation

Most will advice using a scale only once a week but I have always used it daily and recorded the results.

I also will fluxuate 3-5 lbs during the day compared to the morning weighing. This is simple the food and liquid in your body before it is digested.

You weighing in the morning is the most accurate since this is the longest time you go between eating and drinking.

Hmmm, ok. So we are eating up to 5 pounds of food then? I may start weighing my food! (Just kidding). Thanks for responding, Tommy.

I'm sure you also drink a buttload of water, too, right? That water definetely contributes to your "during the day" weight gain.

Re: Question about the scale & daily fluctuation

The food you eat and the water you drink both have mass. The amount of sodium you're eating directly relates to how much water your body retains. Add to that things like your bathroom habits (stuff in your tummy/digestive tract also has weight) and all those fun, icky things will add to the fluctuations you see every day.

I also fluctuate anywhere from 3-7lbs over the course of a day. It's completely normal for me and I know it's not an indication of hourly fat loss/fat gain. It just is what it is!

yep since you like to jump on the scales next time you have to pee see howmuch that pee weighed by checking the sclaes before and after same for poop you will be amazed how easy you can lose the same pounds during the day over and over.

gain a pound? drink a pint of water and you are up a pound it is that easy to do.

Have fun playing with your scales. As long as you don't allow the number on it to dictate your self worth or validate your Atkins hard work there is nothing wrong with that.

Re: Question about the scale & daily fluctuation

Yes, I am drinking water. I'm up to 110 oz. per day which is a huge jump from where I was last week. I will NOT let the scale dictate my self worth. It it told me I weighed 120 pounds, I'd still be the same person with the same issues (other than weight problems). Now I have to try weighing before and after my bathroom breaks because you got me curious. lol

Remember, inches come off faster than pounds! Don't forget to tape yourself instead of living your life by that nasty scale.

yes the scale is such a evil yet wonderful thing. Everyday i gain 5 pounds more then what i weighed that morning. but i check my weight like 5 times a day also. im trying to make it a goal to only use it every other day then once a week.
