  • i'm out

After a week of induction where I was constantly exhausted and unable to concentrate on my work, as well as feeling sick to my stomach all the time and having an almost constant headache (and less than a pound lost), I decided atkins really isn't for me...I'm headed back to my vegetarian/organic food normal diet and hopefully that will work better. Thanks for all your support and help this week...good luck with everything!!

Amy. What you are going through is Induction Flu. It's withdrawals from caffiene, sugar and the other bad carbs you used to eat.
We all go through it, some of us have it worse than others.
For me, on day 7 I was still sick as a dog and questioning the whole thing...it was awful. I was tired, achey in my body and my face, my head hurt, I couldn't concentrate and I just felt sick. I did as Dr. Atkins asked and gave it the full two weeks though.

And I'm so glad I did!

After the first week this all goes away! Your body finishes it's withdrawals and you start feeling better! It's a shame you didn't stick it out and see what the results were. I'm sorry you didn't post about this sooner so you could hear about Induction Flu. One week doing anything isn't really long enough to know for sure what it will do for you.
I have every confidence that if you had hung in there for the first two weeks you would have felt like yourself again and had a great success with this.

I hope you see this and give it another try...or at least see it and understand what was going on so you realize the diet was doing what it was supposed to be doing.

All the best to you whichever direction you decide to go.

One week really isn't enough time to get your body going good. I wish you'd hang in there through the full 2 weeks of induction. Those nasty feeling WILL go away once your body gets rid of the bad sugars and all and starts burning the fat away. In my opinion, Atkins is for everyone who wants to lose weight and look & feel healthy for the rest of their lives. If you look at it as "just another diet" and plan on ending it, then I guess it really isn't for you. Good luck with your "vegetarian/organic" diet. I hope you get the results you want.

Amy. I just finished two weeks and only lost 2lbs. I followed everything properly..needless to say I am discouraged but I know this works. I've been at a standstill and even though I am upset that reaching my next short term goal is off to a slow start I have to remember to stick with it..that is how I lost my first 25lbs..by sticking with this. You can do it!

          Amy,

like everyone has said, it's induction flu that goes away.

When you say vegetarian/ organoc food. Well that's what Atkins is, except in Atkins with have protein (preferably organic) but we don't have sugar or grains (which are processed before we eat them).
          These are wholefoods.

Sorry its not working for you Amy, its not for everyone thats for sure. You might want to do it as a vegertarian as it can be done.

By any chance you weren't a vegetarian before atkins for a long period then starting eating meat on atkins? I've heard that suddenly changing from a vegetarian diet to eating meat can be hard on your system as well. Perhaps it's a combination of that and the induction flu. Maybe as Desserthorn suggested you should be doing a vegetarian version of atkins?
