  • yeah yeah another OWL question *sigh*

Okay, I have finished day 14. I have only lost 1 pound, and hubby has lost 15! YAY! He has atleast 100lbs to lose, and has chosen to stay on induction for atleast 2 more weeks. However, I have read the other posts, and they said it is possible to lose on OWL for some folks who have not lost on induction. I have read my DANDR and according to the metabolic resistance test, I have a high resistance. However, look at all those inches I lost? Just because I didn't lose a load of weight, I lost quite a few inches. Now, does that STILL mean I have a high metabolic resistance? Also, if I decide to move up the ladder, how long should I wait before I crawl back down if I don't lose or gain weight? OOORRR should I just give induction another 2 weeks right along with hubby? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TY!

There could be a number of reasons why the weight didn't drop. You could be on meds or be retaining water (TOM - not that I know but I have heard that).

obtaining the CCL critical carbo level is increasing your carbs in 5 gram incriments and still seeing if your weight has lost.

So you were wanting to lose 25 pounds...and a person can expect to lose roughly 5 to 10% of their desired amount in the first two weeks, so 1 pound isn't really that bad of a number (any loss is a good loss, right?!) but yes, its at the lower end of the scale. You are fairly close to your goal, so it's to be expected that your weight loss will be slower...it's just how it goes.
      Have you read this yet?

You can stay on Induction for a few more weeks if you like but you are relatively close to your goal so you do need to gear your thinking towards OWL so when you reach goal you are able to maintain this as a way of eating for life.

Remember that the first rung of OWL is 5 carbs more veggies, so even if your husband is still on Induction it'll be an easy thing for you to take that step up. You can stay on a rung for a while as well, so don't stress about this too much. Take your time and move on when it feels right, but bear in mind what your eventual goal is.
Honestly, I'd say to stay on it a few more weeks with your hubby just so the two of you settle into the whole Atkins thing really well, and then think about moving on.

And celebrate those inches that are coming off!! It means more to me to wear a smaller size than it does to see what the numbers say on the scale...after all, that's what people notice first!

Great advice Moochiecat! TY for your responses! LC Dave, you may be right about that medication. I am on pain medication and that MIGHT be hindering it I suppose. DANDR mentioned arthristis meds could slow the process, even though this isn't directly for arthritis, it IS for pain. I will be off of them soon as I am getting better. I will go as long as I can without taking them today, and I may not even need them <depends on what I do> sometimes exercise can trigger the pain. I suffer from pubic symphysis sepparation from having my daughter. It is rare, and painful http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm I AM getting better though Moochiecat, I am going to stay with induction another 2 weeks with hubby and begin moving up the ladder after that just to see. If I gain weight, then I will just come back down. I don't think I will gain though..atleast I should hope not! TY again for your responses!

Just to add...havig a high metabolic resistance to weight loss does not mean you will not lose weight on OWL or that you will have to remain on Induction to lose any weight at all. It only means that your weight loss will be relatively slower than someone who has a low metabolic resistance to weight loss.

Furthermore, staying on Induction does not guarantee that the weight will be lost "faster".

Induction is a cleansing time..a time to build a foundation...it's not the whole diet. OWL means "Ongoing Weight Loss" so don't be stressed about adding foods in...it's not designed to cause you to gain weight if you're doing it carefully and thoughtfully.
Generally the only time people 'come back down' to Induction level is if they've fallen off the wagon...and then they only stay on Induction for a few days to get back into ketosis and they head back up the rungs of OWL.
