  • Question about aspertame

Okay, I know that as long as I count it toward my sweeteners for the day, and not my water, I can have diet caffeine free soda. Technically, I can have 2 cans a day, but I don't want that much, just maybe a can every few days, as a treat. Soooo I went to the grocery store lastnight and I can only find...

    1.)Diet caffeine free soda w/ aspertame(sp)

    or

    2.)Diet soda w/ splenda.

    Which can I have on induction? I would assume #1 b/c I can't have caffeine, but I don't want the aspertame b/c I'm terrified of a self-induced stall.

What do you (on strick induction) drink??

Thanks so much for your help.

No caffeine, no aspartame. Both can cause stalls. And aspartame is really not good for you. Can you get Diet Rite? It supposedly has no caffeine and I think it's made with Splenda. I so far haven't found it where I live though. Of course, you know you should be avoiding sodas altogether, right?

they have diet rite here, but I thought it had caffeine...maybe I read the wrong one. Why am I supposed to be avoiding sodas altogether? Just curious. I don't want them if I'm not supposed to.

I think as an occasional treat it's okay, but you should be getting the bulk of your fluids from water. Some people get dependent on sodas, but that could be the caffeine part. You also want to kill your sweet tooth and sometimes soda can contribute to that, even if it's not made with sugar. It's not on the Induction Acceptable Foods list. If you can find one with splenda and no caffeine then I'm sure it's okay to have now and then.

          Re: Question about aspertame

You need to drink your 64 fluid ounces plus 8 extra ounces for every 25 pounds you want to lose in plain water, and any other caffeine free drinks should be extra to that.

Particularly when starting on induction many people have trouble drinking that minimum especially if they are drinking 'sodas' as well, so it is better to avoid flavoured fizzy drinks completely.

Another reason for avoiding them along with any other sweetened foods or drinks is to try and tame our sugar monster!

If you can get through induction without using your 'up to 3 servings' of sweetener each day you may well find your sugar monster has shrivelled up for lack of sustenance and never bothers you again!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I appreciate all of your info. I do drink 100 oz a day. I should be drinking about 80, but I like 100 better!! It's great for my skin as well. I have been glowing since I started the WOE again, and it's b/c of the water.

This has the same info as DANDR and it says that it is on the acceptable foods list, as an occasional thing. I'm not trying to second guess you, but if their is new info that I'm missing, I don't want to follow the old info. Thanks so much for you help

That's okay Jsj. It's good to look into things. I took my info from the foods list I printed from the sticky here. That website you linked to is the Atkins company, right? Since they no longer seem to have anything to do with the Atkins wol, some of us are a bit suspicious of their motives. Next they'll be telling you frankenbars are good for you. lol

LOL. I saw the 4 different phases of Atkins on there and everything seems okay. It does say the same thing in my DANDR. I just want to sabotage myself, ya know?

                  Re: Question about aspertame

The point we're trying to make by telling folks to avoid soda is to make people face their addictions and beat them. If you are having one soda a week, and it's sweetened with Splenda, then there's probably nothing to worry about.

If a person finds their mind can't let the idea of soda go...if the day is geared around that can of pop, then that person needs to examine the role of certain foods, like soda, in their life.
A lot of us are here because of obsessions/addictions to foods, and our goal is to help you use Induction to break these habits.

That description may not apply to you, but it does apply to many people, and that's why we sound like a broken record when it comes to sodas and other sweet treats.

Okay. Thanks so much! I am thankful for all the advice. I am lucky and for some reason don't struggle with drinks, only food. I do understand what you are trying to say, and I really appreciate it.

PS on my last post I ment to say that I just DON'T want to sabotage myself...I forgot the little word DON'T!

Thanks again, you guys are wonderful
