  • Induction is where I will stay

I will stay on induction for a very long time. At least until I am within 10 lbs of goal weight. I have gone down to 201 from a start weight of 223 and now I will maintian the induction level of carbs until I get to about 170. I may decide at that time that my goal is lower but until then I am happy with my weight loss as it is.

All the en couragement which is provided on this board is wonderful and I want to thank everyone for their support.

Re: Induction is where I will stay

Just remember, Dr. Atkins said that the last 5-10 pounds lost must be spent in the Pre-Maintenance phase.

I do realize that some folks might reply to you saying that they stayed on Induction to the very end and moved directly into Maintenance without any problems. To these people, I say each phase of Atkins has a specific purpose in your aiding you to maintain your goal weight. OWL is where you learn to eat in the "real world" because you learn how different foods affect your body. Pre-Maintenance gets you ready for Maintenence by teaching you how much of a certain food affects your body. The folks who did transition through all the Phases and learned their body's quirks aren't the folks who post those thread in the Maintenance Forum that they've fallen off and regained all of their weight or they can't control their appetite, etc.

Re: Induction is where I will stay

the one thing I have learned a bout my body at this time is even when progresseing through the other levels I have to maintain induction levels of carbs or I gain weight so to stay at induction levels is not to say that I won't work through the levels as I move through this journey

And if you look at the rungs of OWL, it's not that intimidating at all. You can stay on a rung for a while too, you don't have to plow through them.
The first rung of OWL is 5 carbs more veggies...I found it really expanded things for me just to have more veggies and I stayed on that rung for quite a long time. You might want to park it there for a while, but don't get into the mindset that Induction is all there is.

          What they said.

A lot of people stay on induction a very long time. And when you're having amazing success it's hard not to keep doing it exactly the same thing (afraid you'll jinx it, or something).
I'm doing extended induction myself since I've crashed and gained before. But I did get a little bored on induction last time. This time when I start feeling deprived and/or bored-I'm going to dig into the next rung. I love experimenting with the recipes and a new level gives a lot more options.

good luck. I'll meet you at the bottom (goal, that is)

Yes... you can stay a long time in induction, but don't be afraid of the move to OWL. You really do still lose weight while moving up the rungs, and the extra food choices are very welcome after a lengthy induction. I spend several months in induction and after I moved (hesitently) to OWL, I really regretted not having done so sooner.

                Just my two cents worth...

                Happy low carbing!

Ahhh, I gotcha! Your first post gave me the impression that you were one of those people determined to stick to Induction because you didn't believe you still lose weight on the OWL and Pre-Maintenence.

If you have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss, you'll have to limit yourself to the Induction level carbs in order to lose weight (says so in the book). But that doesn't mean you can't go up the OWL and Pre-Maintenance Ladders.

Out of curiosity, the first time around if you can remember, how many pounds did you lose during the first 14 days of Induction and what did that number correspond to on the Metabolic Resistance chart in the book?

Also, on occasion you might want to test your body by increasing the carbs by 5 every so often. When I began OWL I found my CCLL was around 30. Anyhow, after about 6 months eating at my CCLL, I noticed I stopped losing weight (pounds and inches), felt tired and lost the appetite suppression effect. After re-reading the book, I realized that I was a smaller person and a more physically active person then I was when I began OWL, so I went up on my carbs by 5 nets and found that my weight loss picked up and I wasn't as tired. I figured out that my CCLL changed and I found my new CCLL to be about 45. The regular exercise allowed me to have a higher CCLL (which meant I was able to eat 'more' healthy carby foods and still lose weight).

I just read DANDR and Dr. A says whenever you gain 5 pounds to go on induction for a week to get the cravings out of your system and back on track.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I love this feeling of not being hungry ...(induction)...but I know I need to teach myself to go the next step OWL by adding more veggies .

Re: Induction is where I will stay

I have discovered whenever I go up to the next level of carbs I stall in my weight loss. So for the time being I will try to go to 25 g of carbs and see how I manage with that. I may work up the rungs but maintain the 25 g for a while, as we all it it is wait and see how your body responds to what you are doing. As long as I continue to lose I will be happy. So now you can say I have moved to ongoing weight loss. This will the last posting in this thread unless I start to gain and need to return to induction to beat the beast back into submission. If that becomes the case I will start a new thread no point in making it longer than it needs to be love you all and thanks for the encouragement to move forward.

dont go up just add the more veggies to your 3 cups already and eliminate some none veggie carby things. you can easily get in 20 net carbs with 5 net carbs of veggies and your 3 cups even with eggs and cheese. do a modified OWL kiddo good to see you back.
